[MOD] More Naval AI

something weird happened in MP yesterday: I was Lanun, switched to Hyborem and didn't OOS ( ! ) , and as hybo I was still able to build Sea Havens :D

another weirdness I realized: Hybo immediately, upon his summoning, DoWed the Embers ( by far the most powerful civ on the map ) before I could do anything with them. are they hardcoded to DoW the civ who holds the AV holy city? that would seems like the only possible explanation..

besides, you're most likely way above our league :p

lurker's comment: Tasunke most definitely is way above dot's league.

Hyborem gets the tech of the civ that summons him. In the Lanun's case, he get's that starting tech that only they can get, allowing him access to pearls and pirate coves.

On another note, Kuriotates and Hyborem capping cities are the main OOS causes and as MC pointed out, most likely an easy fix. I certainly wouldn't complain.

Game also OOSs when creating a puppet state, which is odd since it doesn't OOS when creating Hyborem or Basium, but whatever, it's not game breaking as it can be solved with a quick reload.

it was just me and my girl :D

I've just taught my dad how to play as well.. thanx to his previous experience with Warlords 2 and 3 he should handle it just fine :D

besides, you're most likely way above our league :p

eh, league depends on a lot of factors, I think.

1) is Chalid used

2) is Nox Noctis used

3) is X, Y, or C civilization used

4) are double moves used

5) is a focused and pure strategy used

6) how fast is the turn timer (ie how much do misclicks matter)

7) is the strategy 'hero' focused, experience focused, or production focused

8) The Map (how fair it is, etc ... in resources, terrain, and barbarian locale)

9) how aggressively various players are playing (ie, the more aggro players involved, the more likely the aggro players will BE particularly aggro ... but if only one aggro player is involved, chances are he will be playing passively)

10) random factors

So, in short, I think we should get together sometime for a game! :)

@Tasunke: I'll let ya know when we're up for a game. hamachi, right?

@CurseUppl: I think Seafaring lanun unique tech only reveals pearls. Sea Havens are lanun harbour UB, they need fishing instead.

Hm, I never tried building them as Hyborem. Just saw the pearls and assumed he would be able. Silly of me :D

*edit* I might add that Hamachi is a terrible platform to use. Teamviewer is much better for VPN, solidly coded and used by corporations for their networking.

Has anyone been able to get Rystic's tweakmod to work with Tholal's AI mod? I just tried it and I am getting a bunch of errors in the XML\Units\civ4spellinfos file.

I have decided the next release of the Tweakmod will use the Naval AI mod as a base.

Yes, Hamachi :)

'The FFH Arena'

with 'ffh' as a pass

(iirc)

Also, I'm on skype, as it seems marvelously useful for organizing games ^_^

by the way. what happened to autocasting? it was added in FFH from Wild Mana back in patch 0.41 H, but it seems to no longer be present. did it get removed at some point? all that having to recast haste each and every turn REALLY detracts from the experience.

upon investigation, the autocast tag is still in the xml schema, so it seems like the only thing required to bring back autocasting would be adding the autocast tag to unitspells.xml - pretty please for the next release? :D

if there's no quick way to do this, I'd be willing to do this with the current file and attach it here :)

ya, freaks should have a high priority to upgrade to Swordsmen.

(Upgrade good freaks, settle the bad freaks, and do with the rest what you will- usually upgrading them)

I'm playing through Ffh trying to win all the different victories (prince difficulty), so far i am done with cultural, Luonnatar, and Tower of Mastery.

Next is religious. Have anyone won that that have any tips on what strategies and leaders/ civs to use?

Btw, early christmas this year? :snowcool:

Edit:

Settings are:

Standard size Erebus continents with medium cohesion, 7 civs, all victories enabled except time.

well :
found a religion.
have open borders with most
spread it to everybody
(you can even use the priest ability so you are sure it spreads to the other ... plus they get the temple, so they can spread it themselves.
make friend with all.
(be stronger to not be rushed.. or to force some of your "friends" to convert to your religion : makes it possible to inquiisition in their cities... + they should help spread the religion)
get inquisition promotion on priests... and inquisition all other religions from all the cities you can (all of yours... but also all of your friends that you can)
-target the biggest cities first.
-try to increase the size you your cities to the max.
...

One thing I've done is have other religions in my biggests cities.. (with 20 or more pop) so I stay far from the goal and other don't see I'm close... and then ... inquisition them simultaneously to jump from 50% to 60%. (especially if there is 4 religion in the city... the religion is only 1/4 of the city size.... then it suddenly counts for 100% of the city size... nice increase)
(well it depends on the relative size of your civ versus the world (but the indication comming from the domination victory help you evaluate this)

that is all IMO.

maybe khazad or ljos or kurios could be good starts :
-either because : if you are ljos or khazad.. well you don't have this civ as opponent to get this religion and beacause they are closer tech-wise to this religion
+ increased displacement in forests/hills helps you spread the religion quickly
-kurios : big cities make for big impact of your city size in the religion %

Horatius has a solid strategy for a religious victory on Deity difficulty with Tholal's mod using Varn Gosam. Google it or search for it on this forum.

You disagree with what? And what are their counters, and what makes them strong? And when did I mention the AI? And what about when times when you can't declare war on someone because of forced peace?

I disagree that mask needs changing/balancing. I think it's fine as is.

The main counter to shadows is the guardsman promotion. It's not that hard to get, making shadows simply strength 10 recon units that die to your longbowmen, champions, or whatever you have topping your main stacks. Keep only powerful defenders like longbowmen actually in your cities, and shadows lose their edge. The most powerful counter is Dies Dei, the Empyrean holy city wonder that makes all opponents' units visible in your territory. Makes those sneaky units eminently squishy.

On the AI, I made an assumption that any comment about the balance of a game mechanic in a "More Naval AI" mod would, at some level, touch on how the AI uses it. Sorry if that was rash of me.

As for forced peacetime, yes, that's irritating. You can still hit them when they're HN, or use your own HN units to take them out. Mostly, I'm talking about the "metagame" though. If Feryl Viconia is assassinating my high value units, I may talk nice for a while if I'm not ready for a war. But in the end, she will pay. They always pay. And forced peace won't last long enough to save her buxom Svartalfar self.

I have seen Illians build rituals while at war. In my MP game with Tasunke, Illians got attacked very early by Calabim and have been in war since then, while completing Samhain, White Hand and Deepening.

Yea. It was on Immortal difficulty.

I just notice something rather odd in my current game, which I thought might warrant an (probably quite simple) SDK fix.

I was playing as Sandalphon of the Sidar, and had Kane of the Malakim as one of my vassal states. At one point I decided to airlift a Shadowrider (I had the Council of Esus State religion and The Nexus wonder) to Kane's capital (and only city) in order to get him closer to the front lines. The Shadowrider had Hidden Nationality. When it entered his city, it ejected all of his units and captured the city. I was able to liberate it to form a puppet state. Kane was left with no cities, but was not eliminated from the game.

Since HN units are not permitted to capture or even other team's cities normally, I think that they should be banned from airlifting to those cities too.

(I don't know if it is in any way relevant, but Kane was a rebel who broke away from Cardith Lorda. He latter asked me to become his master in order to protect us against his mutual enemy, the Basium/Beeri Bawl alliance who had Cardith, Auric Ulvin, and Captain Ostanes as his vassals.

This game is uses the new release I uploaded early today, plus a couple of very minor changes I just made to see if made things more balanced.)
