MOD request: Expanded Classical era

Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but this probably won't get you anywhere, no matter how many times you "bump" it. Like, if you said "Hey, here's a bunch of cool techs that should be in the Classical Era, and here's what they should give you. Can someone with technical skills make the mod?" then maybe someone would. Or if you said, "I want to make a mod that expands the Classical Era, does anyone have any suggestions?" then some people might chime in. But saying "Hey, someone think of something cool and then make it for me", well, it doesn't really accomplish anything.

I thought that might happen. When I posted this I had to leave for school in less than a minute, and as such didn't have time for a full post. I apologise for sounding like a jerk. I would like suggestions, as I am currently learning to code technologies for a Tourism / natural wonders mod.

So please, suggestions for Classical era techs would be welcomed!

The best suggestion I could give would be to mine Civ4 for ideas. Religious-related techs like Code of Laws, Monotheism, etc. were in Civ4 but many/most weren't translated to the new game (although the buildings they unlocked usually were) and could easily be put into those earlier eras; you'd just need something other than religions to add. (Alternatively, you can space out some of the existing buildings/units/bonuses by spreading them across the new techs.)

Good idea, thanks.

Could a historian tell me when the real life equivelent of the 'Classical era' was? Would it have been Greek / Roman antiquity?

I put my vote on that era most likely, the Iron Age era till the fall of the Roman Empire imo

I agree, I would say roughly 1200 BC to 476 AD.

Some tech ideas:

I always thought an Athletics tech would be nice; could unlock the Colosseum and a new Olympic Games wonder/project;

Code of Laws from Civ4 could be renamed Jurisprudence and put in the classical era.

Currency and Metal Casting, while both put under Medieval Era in Civ5, are probably more appropriate under the Classical Era.

Drama and Literature could be brought back from Civ4 for the Classical Era.

Also, maybe a Military Tactics tech (think Sun Tsu)?

Yeah, you could go the distance with Road Construction, Heavy Cavalry, religion, etc.

Me being bored and working on some new stuff for the Earlier Ages.

How about Siege Towers for a late-game siege unit (no ranged attack, but extremely powerful against cities and has a good defense against units, but bad offense against them)?

Romans already have the Ballista.

Wow I missed the Stadium at Modern, well in my changes notes I'll redirect it as a Sports Stadium and a base Stadium will b a Classical era thing.

I would bump Philosophy into the classical era. Maybe also Construction. Maybe there is stuff from the renaissance era that could be moved to classical.

I have prepared a bronze/classical age tech tree for my mod.

The placement is based on the date of discovery (if I found one), with only minor adjustments to better distribution.

And yes, this applies to necromancy - described by Homer in Oddysey ;)
