MOD Space Race

I just read this in another thread and I've had the same idea myself...
Would it be possible to make the space race more Civ1/2ish where a civ has to survive until the ship lands in order to win? And if the capital is taken, then the ship crashes?

This would likely make me turn space race back on.

The short answer is, Yes.

The long answer is, Yes. In fact, I've been considering doing this in my modpack. I don't really like the space race victory either, it basically amounts to a "manufacturing" victory and it's difficult to stop it in the modern era. It would be nice to have a few turns to try to...*ahem*, prevent...the launching civ from still winning...
 
That really shouldn't be hard to do; and I say this with absolutely no experience with how the programming would work. ;)
 
The Civ 2 Space Race was great - you had to balance potential score with speed and chance of success. You also had to stay alive until it got there. This would be my ideal Space Race. It'd probably take a bit of work, but it's most certainly doable.
 
What I find interesting is, the race is all about reaching the next habitable planet.

What about the race to get the first man in space...the first man to orbit the earth...the first man on the moon...and then maybe the first ship/colony to reach Alpha Centauri...Multi-levelled man!
 
First on the moon is Apollo! ;)
