Is it possible to mod the population growth rate in civ3? I want to increase the "food box" of the cities so they grow more slowly....

Makinus... Just Modify the Terrain in the Biq to have the amount of Food you want for each Terrain. For example, You can set some of the Terrain as 0 Food.
As far as I know, the "Food Box" is not adjustable.

If you do not want Population to grow even faster, Do Not allow "Doubles City Growth Rate" located in "Improvements and Wonders" in the Biq.

Make the metropolis size one, it will have larger food box. Disable granaries. Other than that, only lower food values of tiles/irrigation or make citizen food consumption 3.

make citizen food consumption 3.

This methode to slow down city growth is used in the mods RAR and RARR and is working very well since more than a decade - but in that case you should enlarge the number of resources that are giving bonus food, otherwise there will be cases, when city growth doesn´t happen at all.
