Trickster Reincarnated
As we all wait breathlessly to find out who the new moderators will be, I am pondering the question of how one gets in place to be a moderator and just what sorts of things preclude people from being made moderators... obviously focused on my own chances for having a shot some day.
Obviously we've seen cases where all around mature posters who never really rocked the boat, like Padma and Cheiftess, were elevated recently into moderator positions. Does it mean that conversely a person like myself, who has been banned once for personal flaming, once for political flaming, and once for avatroll, warned off a couple times, and self imposed ban once, has no chance at such a position? Or if I had demonstrated after each return from a ban that I had moved past the particular behavior, had learned the rules and - by testing them - why they work the way they do, might I not be a good candidate?
It isn't like being a supreme court judge, where you might not want a formerly convicted felon. It is a role where having understood the reasons for bans and the lengths of bans and what kind of return behavior warrants further intervention etc. might come in handy. Certainly we've seen instances of moderators whose behaviors as posters was less than sterling.
What do you guys think? Are there enough Paladins in shining armor out there to easily fill in the gaps that this isn't issue, or could the candidate pool include examples of reformed posters like myself?
