Civilization VII Update 1.2.2 - June 23, 2025

I think we need a couple difficulty levels higher than deity. It seems like you'd have to try to lose.
Now that they have the custom difficulty, they really should allow you to choose Deity+X (say up to up to 10-20 levels above deity) for any of the options.

(Deity +30 or so is probably theoretically un winnable….By turn 20 all AIs are on Futures and all Wonders claimed…as well as any legacy that doesn’t need unit movement)

Somethings weird with Hub towns and Treasure fleets for games already in session.

I was in Exploration Age and had 3 hub towns making 18, 20 and 22 influence and 1 town making treasure fleet. When I loaded game today the town making treasure fleet started making caravans which only sail 2 tiles a turn, making a 6 turn trip into 10 turns.

When I went to change the hubs back to normal setting (no specialization) I did not lose any influence. I started with 80 and after changing 3 towns I still made 80 and the towns started growing. The 3 AIs are making 4.6, 8.7 and 24.3 influence a turn and none of them have warred yet this age.

Treasure Convoys rock. I particularly like that you no longer have to have a coastal city on the receiving end either.
This is one more part, that now is copied (and may be a little bit refined) from Civ 3 (C3C). Please see the supply shipments in the Civ 3 mod CCM3.

They're awesome but take damage on deep ocean until you research shipbuilding so you have to plan their route home.

Seriously, my first 1.2.2 early game, deity-
Scout scout scout, warrior (used as scout), saw pit, settler, settler, settler. Lost a scout, nearly lost another, warrior got in a fight. Surrounding me IP-wise were 3 hostile 1 friendly. I massively forward settled Confucius, and he's cool with it. I mean, I'm taking a tile from his capitol. This is not worthy of being called deity difficulty. Hell, bring back Sid difficulty!

I posted this in Maurya thread, but I'm going to post it again here. He's my friend again after I did this.

How are things going for everybody? Is the game Good to Play yet?

It's a good game. There are balance issues, but I only play singleplayer like most people so they don't matter much. The game doesn't tell you what you need to know sometimes, so be ready to read things online or get the user interface mods that do tell you.

It's easy to bounce off of, but in some ways it's the best Civ game yet. I can help you get started or I'm sure other people here would too.

...... Just noticed you are on CFC for 19 years.

Fwiw I used to check these forums even way back when I obsessively played 3. I didn't comment online back then. I registered for 7 because it was my first civ game playing from release.

I'm still having regular crashes where the game pauses on 'please wait'. I managed to get through a whole game the day before without it, but my current game it's every seven to eight turns. Will let you save and reload so it's not sa bad as it could be, but still something I've never seen in a previous Civ game, especially four/five months after release.

@Osk21, without trying to belittle Sav's problems in any way, I feel it's important to report that I haven't had a crash since release week, where I had 1 or 2 CTD... Since then, all is running very smoothly. So the experience is probably different from rig to rig

And I'm still having a lot of fun with the game... It's not perfect in any sense, but it IS fun

I really like the update, but the game isn't fully balanced towards playing the new large and huge maps:

That straight large edge on the homeland continent. :crazyeye: I was playing with 9 players total - six spawned on the homeland continent, and the entire northern hemisphere of the distant lands continent is completely empty.

Settlement limit also doesn't scale with map size when it really should.

These are all minor quibbles of course. I've enjoyed Civ7, and am still enjoying it. If you didn't like it before, you won't like it now.

Also, I think unit movement speeds should scale (especially ships)

@sav:
(on my M2 Mac) I'm having a similar, but not identical problem: The game simply freezes without warning, and needs a forced quit, recovering into the Finder, and needing to restart Civ, obviously loosing all since the last save.
This has been ongoing for several months, and the updates have not changed anything obvious to me (maybe a bit less frequent??)
I have the subjective feeling that this becomes more likely the longer I wait with a "safety-save", which could suggest some kind of memory leak eventually leading to the freeze.

Number of players should scale with map size.
(which is something they still need to work on for the large/Huge maps)...they should have 10 and 12 players

So you're suggesting regular saves fixes it somewhat, or the opposite? Mine autosaves every turn, and the game still allows me to reload despite pausing. It's annoying as hell, but if mine was totally crashing every six turns, I wouldn't even be trying to play it at all.

I haven't had a crash for months, but besides that I highly recomment to change the settings file to allow for autosave each turn and keep 200 saves. An entire age, at your fingertips. :P

Large maps already support 10 players in single-player games. They're working on enhanced stability to make it work in multi-player games, too. They're also working on performance to get 12 players in huge maps!

But... Unless you have some DLC or mods, you'll have to settle for repeats in 12-player games because there are only 10 civilizations for each era available in the base game.

I think that releasing a free bonus pack of leaders and civilizations would be a great way to build back some support for the game. A thank you for dealing with the unfinished UI and stuff.

This all sounds somewhat poor, when even in Civ 3 it is possible to have up to 31 civs and 76 Barbarian tribes on a map.
