Modern Age Help

I always do pretty well until around the late 1600s to the mid 1700s, just about the time (I think) I hit the modern era. Then I cannot keep pace with commerce and production. What are some tips to increase production? Civics? Make sure I found a religeon.

Your problem might occur before then.

Have you laid down and worked enough cottages?
Have you built commerce and science multipliers in your best commerce cities?
Have you specialized your production cities with a combination of farms and mines?
Have you considered converting one grassland-and-river-heavy city from commerce to production with watermills and workshops, and switching civics to State Property?

I guess I need to look at my games more closely, make sure I am ready for the modern era. It just seems strange that I can lead the game in points and techs, then a century or two later all the AIs have five times more units than me and I have no chance to expand.

I did not know what people use to check out a game, I guess it is just the time at that one save. I thought someone might watch the replay. Anyway, here are a couple saves, right about the time it all goes down hill.
