Modern Unit Graphics

Are there any modern Chinese infantry units hidden about? I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard for me to just modify a flag, but figured I would ask. I'm going to design a modern World War III scenario on a Super Giga Earth for MGE. Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, and Pakistan will square off against NATO, India and a hoast of Pacific Allies. Hopefully I can find the infantry units I need.

There are tons of units out there, including modern Chinese. They are fairly scattered around in threads like this, on the Scenario League Wiki and on peoples hard drives. One way or the other you should be able to find the units you need. I would track down some and post them but I'm in work and don't have access to the internet on my laptop (I'm posting from work PC).

Thank you McMonkey. It's great to see the old guard still exists to a degree. I can remember seeing your posts back in 2004 when I got a copy of Civ2 for Christmas for the first time as a child.

Here you are.

Welcome to the SL Alsbron. Good to see people are still playing civ2 other than the 'old guard' :)

Feeling old much McM?! :mischief:

McMonkey reminds of a guy in an old Far Side comic, where there's two ragged, heavily-bearded prisoners in a stone dungeon marking checks on the wall for their sentence served thus far, and one, who has half as many strokes on the wall as the other, says, "I wish you'd stop calling me 'new kid.'"

Thanks for the warm welcome, gentlemen. Whenever I download your wonderful units, I can't see them in my c/program files directory. The only time they are visible is when I opt to save files, at which point I can see all of them with little "lock" icons in the bottom left corner. Anyone have any advice?

Bah! Just babies. :old:

Relax grandad it's time for your nap :old::D

Got me thinking though..... when did you make your first scenario B.? late 90's? I remember downloading stuff by you and Nemo, Alex, Carl Fritz, Mike J etc (ie the real old guard :D ) around 2000-ish when I first realised that modding civ was a thing.....

Not sure I understand the problem Alsbron; do you mean you can't see units in-game or you just want to see units in a picture viewer? If it's the latter, I would suggest getting Gimp or another (free) image-viewer to allow you to view and modify units files outside of civ. I guess you realise that most of the units posted here are not in the right format for using directly in-game? They need to be copied and pasted into a civ2 or ToT units bmp of the right format to be seen in-game...

I must not have been very clear with my explanation.

The problem is with the Windows interface and doesn't have anything to do with the game itself. When I download .zip files and send them to my Civilization library, the resulting files appear normally when I access them via My Computer. However, when I download files from the Scenario League forum via Save Picture As, the files are invisible and do not appear via My Computer or any normal use of the computer. The only time they are visible is when I save more files from the Scenario League, at which point my previously saved files from the League appear with little lock icons in the bottom left hand corner. They are otherwise invisible when navigating my Windows 7 interface.

I hope this description is more useful.

My original scenarios for FW were War of 1812 (Oct '98), Russian Revolution (Mar '99), Congo! (Apr '99), Prince of Darkness (Aug '99) and Millennium 004 (Oct '99). Test of Time was released in summer of 1999, so I started experimenting with that and no longer worked with FW/MGE. My first ToT scenario was a conversion and upgrade of Congo! (Jan 2000).

Ah, so your Congo scenario was made in '99. Then you're not mistaken! My Rwandan-Canadian friend, who, long ago, watched me playing that scenario, said the Rwandan flag you had for their cities was the old and obsolete one. But, with you're statement of when you made the scenario, it makes sense, as the current Rwandan flag wasn't formally adopted until 2001.

Say, techumseh, do you have any plans in the future to make an updated ToT version of the War of 1812? I don't currently believe there's a scenario extant for ToT that deals with it (except as a small part of gapetit's conversion of Saladin's global Napoleonic scenario, but I mean one dealing with that war in specific).

Interesting. The scenario runs from May '98 to April '03. At the time I was designing it, I had no idea when the war would end, so I picked April '03. With a year-long temporary peace in 97-98, it ended in July '03, so I wasn't far off in my prediction. AFAIK, it's the only scenario released in the middle of the war it depicts.

No plans for another War of 1812, I'm afraid. Btw, I forgot one scenario. Vietcong was finished in May '99, but was never widely released.

Canberra bombers in RAF and USAF (B-57) service. Early 50's silvery through late 50's RAF camo and end of service photo-reconnaissance drab (2006?). Also included a USAF Vietnam-era camo one for Tootall

Very accurate RAF and SEA camos. Would you consider painting your F4 Phantom in these two colour schemes?

Sure, already drawn Tim :)

USAF F-4B/C/D in 1960's light grey amd Vietnam camo, F-4E in Vietnam and 1980/90's 2-tone grey. Royal Navy F-4K and RAF F-4M in 60's-70's camo and end of service low-vis light grey. Oh, and some stable-mates for for the Brit Phantoms: Hunter, Javelin and bat-sh1t-crazy Lightning.

Btw, which Century jets have you not covered? I have itchy drawing fingers :)
