Modern Unit Graphics

Found this on Quora:

"It means that’s it was a modified version of the base plane.

“Bis” by itself is not an abbreviation in this instance. It’s a phonetic name for Russian letter “Б” -that makes English “b” sound.

Just like you would use certain words when you spell in English - like Foxtrot for F , or India for I, you would use Bis to mean that’s its a Б version of the plane - i.e. a new modification . Like this I-15 Bis"

So essentially gentlemen, it means plane B.

If you look lower on that Quora page you'll find that Tanelorn's latin-derived explanation is also quoted, and that the Russians were probably using it in both the latin and Russian senses. Certainly the French and Italians who had used 'bis' previously would have been referring to the latin connotation. But yeah, version B or mark II suits I think.

All that musing aside, here's the promised French jet-age compilation:

I can post the single colour masks if anyone wants to have a go at alternate camos.

Please do Gareth, I'd like to have a go at the Mirage F1
-edit- I just realised I had made a brand new Orao blank, before the quarantine. I lost it in the crash. F*ck.

Ha you've picked the one I hardly touched, so there are no mask files for it. I'll happily make a plain version up though to post later.

No I ll do it. I just wrote it in case you had it handy. No hurry. I am remaking everything scenario related almost from scratch.

I'll take any masks for the Mirage 2K and Jaguar please - those were in service with quite a few nations so that would seem a good place to start.

I've taken a big liberty to put together, for my own temporary reference, a compilation of all your RAF/RN aircraft in the same style as the French and Russians - no doubt a proper one is in the works

Yep, here we go :goodjob:

@typhoon353 Here's some single colour shells for various aircraft. I've never saved them when changing computer so these are only the most recent off my current pc

EDIT: It seems converting these from psp files to png has lost the mask selection. If you have Paintshop Pro these are more useful (added second rar)

I'm almost hesitant to keep tweaking in case there's more to come, but that's probably too much to hope for ...:groucho:

Some low-effort edits for American jumpjets. Like ours but presumably with more freedom:

(Couldn't find a single colour mask for the GR1- but if exists it would be easy to do a Spanish/Thai Matador as well)

Thanks and you tweak away. It's going to be some time before I have the extra US aircraft ready for a compilation anyway. (B-47, Hustler, Navy planes like the Cougar and Skyray etc)

 More 'freedom' (lol) and bigger, more trigger-happy guns maybe?

BTW, I hadn't realised the AV-8B had gold-coated cockpit glass like the F-16(?)

Here's your single-colour Harrier GR.1:

Hope you don't mind T, I just added a smooth run between the intake and the engine cover above the wing root - I think the 'gap' there was left over from the camo on the original? Great unit though from you and Typhoon (I'll add it in the French compo if that's alright)

The second modern sprite-dump. Many look outdated now and I had even forotten about some.
They can still be used for reference.
To save you the trouble of shifting through numerous threads:

And I definitely missed some.
