Modmods Requests Thread

Seeing that one of the concept images for civilization V is the Haghia Sophia, and with minarets no less, I hereby demand the following modmod: The Haghia Sophia In-Joke mod.

Basically this would require 11-12 skins, depending if you wanted to include no state religion as an effect:

Christianity - no minarets
Islam - minarets

and for the others:

Zoroastrianism - four sacred flames
Hellenism - four Diana Nike's
Buddhism - four lotus'?

etc, either fitting things or comical stereotypes

Got a problem with Golden Sun? *shakes fist*

If any of you clever people have time could you please convert this mod for RoM 2.71 and 2.8?

I think culturally linked starts really adds something to the Perfect World map scripts and would be a great addition to the realism of RoM.

I have even done the start coordinates for the extra base Civs that RoM adds - Abyssinia, Assyria, Hittites, Iroquois and Siam.

I've already asked Afforess to include this in A New Dawn at this thread.

Good News, I have requested it in the original "Culturally Linked Starts" thread too and another person has attempted it there but I don't think they have got it working yet? Hopefully someone can get this working as I think it'll be great to play as the Chinese for example and run into the Khmer, Japanese and Koreans on your borders etc...:p

Modmods i'd love to see working with AND :

- An option that let you choose the Color of your civ.
Sounds simple but i bet its not, cause afaik nobody ever done it with Civ IV

- Landmarks : Particular spots are created randomly when generating a custom map.
Ex : Niagara Falls, Mount everest, Lake Victoria, Great barrier reef, Stone Forest, Grand Canyon, etc..
This idea worked great with Firaxis' Alpha Centauri, and has been successfuly implemented in "Fall from heaven".

-An option that "remembers" all your custom settings after each game you play
( I edited manually both BTS and Aforess files so i'm already done with it )

- An option that keeps a slight probability for goodie huts to deliver a worker or a settler even at high difficulty settings.
( Also already managed to do this manually )

- More quests

Imho, RoM + AND has enough civics, buildings, units etc.. already. Would be nice for modders to explore other neglected paths.

That said, I find so far that RoM + AND is the best Civ IV mod I've ever played, alongside FFH.

Congratz :)

great ideas !

I would like to see the posibility to capture military unit when capturing or razing a city, the same way we got to capture ship after a winning battle.
after all it is that way great conqueror build them army . . .

This has got me thinking, I can't think of any conqueror that has used his/her enemies troops to fight for him after directly conquering their cities? Sure there are mercenaries and hired troops or slave units I can think of but I can't think of any army that has conquered an enemy and immediately used the conquered troops to fight for them? Any one got any references for me to read up on?

Maybe instead of staying military units they turn into workers(only at a chance).

Or slaves, prisoners of war and so on. Capturing a unit as itself (eg an archer as an archer) is easy, its just XML. Capturing it as something else (eg an archer as a slave) is a bit more difficult as it requires code ;) hasn't StrategyOnly done such a thing?

search down to 'epigonoi'

Hmmm, interesting. I wonder if these guys were tribal rivals of the Greater Persian Empire or actually conquered tribes agreeing to fight for their conqueror?

Some of the Persian elite were integrated directly into Alexander's 'Companian's'; the Macedonian/some Greek nobles (Alexander rode at the head of the cavalry). These same elites that had fought as Cavalry against him.

Nobles and men from secondary realms in a country could also be conquered as part of the enemy, and then perhaps more easily brought round to fight for their conquerors. The Epigonoi probably fit more into this category, but it doesn't make their cities any less conquered, or remove the fact that they would be fighting with those that had killed their fellows.

It could even be seen as a better deal:

Persian Immortals - 10000 elite troops, only accept men from Persian, Median or Elamite groups in Persian Empire; they receive special privileges

Alexander comes along, conquers everything, including Bactria. Takes the sons of Bactrains, forms them into a named unit of 30000 'Epigonoi' or successors.

The Bactrian's, a somewhat second priority peoples of the Persian empire now have a large well equipped, well trained body of men, fighting alongside their conquerors (though the Macedonian conquerors are also their conquerors conquerors, but that's long into history at this point). An analogy is perhaps drawn between the old Immortals, and their new role? That's hypothetical, but the majority of the Persian army did not have expenditure put to their training.

In any case, switching sides to your conquerors isn't exactly uncommon; it depends of what you mean. Being paid or being forced is more likely, though there are different degrees of forced.

The Huns/Mongols for example often gave tribes in their wake the 'fight for us or die' option. Looting 'civilization' as part of the raiding horde wasn't a particularly bad thing compared to the alternative. It's a tribute of Arms, i.e men to fight rather than goods or gold. The land could have been conquered, or given the option of doing this or being destroyed.

Enlightening, I love learning more about this kind of thing. Thanks for the insights, I will read up a bit more on this... :goodjob:
