How come when I try to load my mods (with the exception for the officlal ones for BTS, though I haven't gotten around to trying them) that I installed, they all seem to not work?

After the loading bar reaches a bit before half way, there's an error pop-up with the whole "Send Error Report" "Don't Send" and yadda yadda yadda.

I'll provide with a screeny in a bit.
HELP!

EDIT: My bad, the game loads the mod. What I meant to ask about is why is it when I try to start a game in a mod, I get the error message.

Well here's the screenshot.

You mean that?

:hmm: this seems to be a problem with some mods on some machines - but is quite common for other programs as well.
Basically there is something bad going on with your c++ interpreter. I am just putting ideas out there below - its not something I know a solution for
Are you running the game with administrator rights? if not try doing so.
Have you tried starting the mod directly instead of through the game?
is this for all mods or only certain ones - did you try the stuff BtS comes with yet?

I'm so sad to find that someone IS having the same problem as me, but that no one knows WHY.

I've spent about 10 hours total trying to get Fall from Heaven to work... Oddly, it doesn't seem to work on EITHER of my computers, which are totally different models. One is a desktop; dell, about three years old running on XP with decent stats only just now starting to go out of date, and the other is a laptop; only six months old, running on Vista with high-gaming stats.

I have the same issue on both computers which led me to think I was the one doing something wrong. But I've tried fresh installations following the exact directions and only switched from getting one error to another.

I'm going batty over it. Nothing is fulfilling when you know people out there are playing a fantasy-mod Civilization IV. I don't think anyone gets how serious this is to me. I played Test of Time (just because it was fantasy and in the Civ world) for four freaking years without really playing any other games at all.

And despite my distaste for the general way Age of Empires Engine runs, I also played Saga (online) and Age of Mythology (offline) for a great deal of time because so few games contain trading and building and strategy and fantasy all in one game. Fantasy is not just for RPG folks! ANYWAY, I digress.

Point is, what can be done about this error? There must be more than two of us!

did you post in the ffh subforum?

Yes, and no one there seemed to know anything other than "get the latest patch" which, of course, I did. I need to check back there again however, perhaps there is a new reply.

The first post in the bug thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=276032) lists the most common problems:

1. "GFC error: failed to initialaize the primary control theme" error loading the mod. You will recieve this error if FfH isn't installed in the correct location (under Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods). If you don't have Civ4 installed to that location just make sure the FfH is installed in the same directory as Final Frontier, Age of Ice and the other mods that came with BtS. Also make sure you have installed the full mod and not just the patch.
2. The mod loads okay, but when you go to start a game it crashes. You experience this error if you aren't running BtS patch 3.17.
3. If your units look okay when moving but turn back to normal civ4 units when standing still its because you have "Freeze Animations" turned on in your game options.
4. You get an ERA_ORDE error when you try to start the mod. This means you haven't installed the full mod, only the patch. You need to download and install the full mod.
5. Vista users have reported crashes if they have UAC (User Account Control) enabled.
6. Some users have experienced crashes when the game starts. For them disabling movies resolves the problem (there computer is having some sort of difficulty playing the opening movie).

For your issue I would suggest checking to make sure you are running BtS 3.17 (which you've already checked), make sure you are running Fall from Heaven II patch "l" (base Fall from Heaven II will crash with BtS 3.17 because it was built with 3.13). If that doesn't work try looking at your UAC settings since you are running on vista and disabling movies.

All that was helpful. However, I can not get any mod I download to play. I can't even find them in the BTS menu. If I click on the mod itself, it starts the game as normal. The last mod I downloaded to try was the classical antiquity mod, Earth 600bc mod, and the biblical mod. I also downloaded the Israeli civilization but can not use that either.
HELP!!
Thank you

are u sure, that u have placed the mods in the correct folders?

like in your 'installpathofCiv4\BeyondtheSword\Mods\NameoftheMod' folder?

seems your missed that, at least for me ^^

cheers

hm...i think its more like the mods are incompatible with the 3.17 patch.
most of them need a serious update to work with the new patch and it seems hard work.

whats very strange, is, that i can only start FfH2, no BtS vanilla or any other mods ... just FfH2 ^^

...

I found a solution for my problem. Before, I didn't load the mod, I would just go on the scenario, and that was the problem. Thanks anyway!
