Now that we have expanded somewhat and are aware of our basic situation, we must think about our next form of Government. In the latest Science Dept. discussion it was stated that after we get Monarchy, we will head straight for the Republic. So are we going to use the monarch form of government or are we going to be a republic? I believe we need to discuss this matter.

I would say Monarchy to stay on our war-footing.
As soon as we are strong enough to deal with any foreign assault and have secured anough land and are in the far lead, we could switch to a more unwarmongery form of government.

I also concur. Monarchy is more viable for our immediate and not-so-immediate future.

Which begs the question, why should we then pursue Republic? We likely will not discover it before the AI and it therefore is not tradeable...

i think we shoudl take monachy for a while especially if we go to war then move on to republic then democracy later on i know its planning ahead a bit

I think it depends on how much territory we have conquered when we have an oppurtunity to switch governments. If, and that is a big 'if', we have conquered enough land that we have 3 times as much as pretty much everyone else, republic may be a viable option. However, most likely, monarchy will be the best choice.

MONARCHY!!!!!!!!

we've got too much war for Republic.

Monarchy! We're at war, we have a large standing army, and besides, what do the bloody peasants know about running a government? Although later on I'd say switch to democracy...

Love you too Shaitan. And SaaM, I'd say lets at least let Liz live. She's no direct threat to us, and might be useful one day. But above all else-- the Japanese must die! Abe too I guess. But thats a topic for a different thread.

Monarchy definitely. When the wars cool down we might switch to democracy, but I personally like the Monarchy to Communism path.

SaaM: I wouldn't worry too much about them. They ARE expansionist, but they usually tend to have a weak land army. If they do grow, we might be able to bully them for techs and cash, and I don't think it would be hard to push them off the edge of the world in a pinch. BTW, if we wait for the Amerikans to get riflemen, we can bring both Abe and General Grant to "Our American Cousin"...

Naervod: *in annoyingly thick Stalin accent* Communism? Bah! Comrade, Communism is overrated. If you really want a war-time government, stick with Monarchy the whole way through. If not, go for democracy. Communism isn't really necessary, IMHO. And besides, isn't the German-civ's hated government Communism? I can check the editor and get back to you on that one.

Oddly enough, I've never used the Monarchy once in my civ games. That said, our current state of affairs just can't feasibly support a Republic.

Long live the King! :king:

It depends on the sitution.... If we are hard pressed and make a bunch of stupid choices (like we seem to be doing) monarchy would be the best way to cover it up. If w do things correctly and get the wars we need fully under are control a switch to The Republic would be the best.

OK, I'm back from an editor scouting expedition and the verdict is:

The German-civ (and therefore Fanatikan) shunned government is Communism. Not sure if that actually has any bearing on the game (is there a penalty for it or something? Never did understand the editor...) but I don't figure it can be a good thing. Long live the King!

GM, I believe that just affects how the AI chooses which governments they use.
