Hey all, i just bought the game yesterday and was wondering if there is an option to "Buy" units/buildings like there was in Civ I & II? Is it not in Civ 3? I want to build units/buildings faster without having to lose my population by using the hurry option. THanks!

Don't be in Despotism/Feudalism/Communism/Fascism.

Some governments allow for you to hurry improvements/units with gold, while others allow you to hurry units by forced labor. Like Tomoyo said, Despotism, Feudalism, Communism, and Facism all require you to "whip" your populace into working faster. On the other hand, governments such as Republic, Democracy, and Monarchy allow you to hurry improvements/units with gold.

Edit: Welcome to CFC! [party] Feel free to ask questions any time, and enjoy the game!

IOW hurry units or structures is always allowed for std stuff (non wonders). The manner of the "hurry" is different for different governments. You also have to have enough of the coin of the realm. Be it gold or citizens.

you can either buy improvments or whip the poulace to hurry them up depending on the government. unlike civ2 (never played civ1), you can't hurry wonders, you will need a great leader for that.

Buying instead of whipping is one reason I prefer Democracy and Republic. I usually have good enough economy by the midgame (even if I struggle in the early going) to buy things with cash.

PS: Welcome! :goodjob:
