So here I am just got win 2000 and now I cant play since everytime I start up my monitor shuts off. I have downloaded all the lateset drives for my machine, all updates from microsoft and tried about everything else that is on the tech page at www.ina-support.com and NADA DANG THING HAPPENS. Stays the same.
Here are my specs on my machine,
P3 450, 256megs Ram, 20 gig HD, Nvida TNT2 64 meg, generic sound card
It is really starting to pissss me off. NO I am not wanting to reinstall win 98. so hopefully there is a answer to this prob

Two things to do:

1) make sure you have the proper monitor driver for your monitor
2) check the patch readme -- open Civilization3.ini and add "Refresh=60" to the file.

I also have a similar problem after I installed the patch. Everytime I run the game I just get a black screen. It doesn't even play the intro movie. When I use the task manager to see the program status, it says the Civ3 program is not responding.

I didn't have any problem with Civ3 on Win2K before the patch. :(

Adding 'Refresh=60" to the ini file didn't fix the problem. I also tried replacing the Bink DLL with the bink dll from the game CD.

Edit: I installed Civ3 and the 1.17f patch on Win ME. No problem with it so far.... :) I guess 1.17f just doesn't like Win2Kpro...

I just found a way to get around the black screen problem on Win2K.

First backup the intro.bik by renaming it to intro_BK.bik, then create a blank text file and name it to intro.bik.

The intro movie is located in
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Movies

if you used the default installaion path. This will bypass the intro movie and take you directly to the Civ3 menu screen.
