win version (orion95.exe) or the dos version (orion2.exe)?
XP should not cause the trouble. It is prolly your hardware.
there is also a new dos patch 1.4. (And many mooniacs use it under XP)

For me it runs fine under Windows XP, except a slight problem with my cursor.If I open ingame menus like taxation or if I'm naming a planet for example my cursor moves far too fast and is half-invisible.
I have run into issues with the mouse on some of my XP boxes, but MoSlo fixes it. Without MoSlo you have to hold the entry key or shift key to use the mouse on a few screens. The tax screen I could not get to behave without MOSlo.
The 1.4 patch of the DOS verdion works fine. I couldnt get the windows version to work.
