Moon Colony within 20 years!

I doubt it will happen. There is nothing on the moon that anyone wants at the moment. There are several things in orbit that would not require a second jump from a gravity well.

yes but say the population booms we may all be crowded.

I can't get the link to work, but i doubt we will be on the moon in 20 years(as far as a mini civilization) remember earth first we'll ruin the other planets/satilites later.

we've supposedly gone to the moon once over 30 years ago and we're going to have a colony on the moon in 20 years...ha!

finally NASA will get off their fat @ss and hopefully get more Federal money.

i don't think it'll happen, but it might if China sends someone to the Moon(which they are planning on doing), then it is possible.

That would make a great signature!:crazyeye:   :p  :goodjob:

Anyway, knowing Chinese ambition, if they get to the moon, they may decide to stay in space and put up a space station of their own. Considering the impending advent of (at least sub)orbital tourism, another station, be it public or private will get up. I think we'll then see spaceurban sprawl...once there's an orbital shipyard, we'll see interplanetary travel.

This of course I expect over decades, not years.

I doubt it unless someone can get their act together really fast. People will have to get the right technology, life support systems, buildings, spaceships, food, etc. to make the Moon habitable. Spaceship design and testing is a process that can take a while. Just look at the Apollo program, they launched like five unmanned ships and four manned ships before actually landing on the moon. Also, it was in the design stage for a while. Also, a spaceship needs to be designed that can take hundreds of people at a time, because it would not work if only 75 or 100 people landed at a time unless there were many spaceships, which would be extremely expensive to build and maintain.

Also, if man wants to live on the moon, international cooperation is required. The US alone can't do it, nor Russia, nor China. A unified Europe woould have the best chance at it and if American technology was thrown into the mix, it might take 20 years from then. However, at the present day, I can see a moon colony happening in about 40 or 50 years and a Mars colony in about 100 or 200 years.

A moon colony in 20 years? I seriously doubt that. What's the point? I can see a few research outposts there in 20 years at the very most, but not any colonies. Even if we do discover anything useful for us on the moon, I doubt we could get something like that going in 20 years, and the earth still has plenty of room for people within the next 100 years easy. Let's try within the next 50 years, maybe.

There's the sahara desert. There are oceans. Living on either is much cheaper than living on the moon.

There's no reason to build a colony on the moon. It would be a waste of money that'll lead to little if any sceintific advancment.

Not really I think that if a single country/E.U. goes to the moon and forms a base it will be in order of likely hood: China, U.S., E.U., Japan, Russia. No other countries stand a chance of reaching the moon in this century unless the Americans declassify some secret technologies.

They would never have enough money - they always say.

sure china plans on getting to the moon soon, so dose japan, Europe, and india- but U.S corperations are already ahead of them all, with the launching of the first commercial lunar surveyor this october....

the sahara is receding!
cool.
globally how are deserts doing?

but until we get fusion power going there isn't anything or real value on the moon
one book I'd recomend on the subject is "case for mars"
basically it says "moon in 20 years?! hahaha. Mars in 10!"

For something vaguely like a space or moon colony, we'd first need an up-to-date launcher, that is cheap and re-usable.

ISS is currently only manned with two astronauts. It's currently supplyed by a Russian rocket, because of the safety issue with the Space Shuttle.

What a wierd idea, to invest billions of dollars into a space station without having transport capacity available.

It's almost like I wanted to ride a bike without being able to walk.
