Moonsinger's Farm - chieftain world

How many SGLs did you get?

IIRC, 5 SGLs so far. After the previous two games that failed to make the 1300BC deadline, I decided that I'm going to build every wonder under the sun this time. Therefore, I wasn't in any hurry to get to the Industrial Age (since doing that last time had prevented me from building some "expired" wonders; when a wonder is expired, it won't show up in the build-list! I have learned that lesson the hard way).

Btw, all my researches were done with 100% positive balance.:) Since 4000BC, I decided that I was going to keep my balance positive this time and I did.:) I was able to cash-rushed all none wonder culture buildings immediately when they become available without any problem.

Looking back, I think it may be better to skip the Knight Wonder, building that one had caused me about 8 extra turns delay in getting into the Industrial Age. The pay off was only 2 culture points...I can't help wondering if I have made the right choice about that. I thought it was a very good choice at the time...because by not pushing to the industrial age, I was able to save enough money to rush the factory and coal plant immediately when I got there. If I have gotten to the Industrial Age any faster, I probably don't have enough cash to rush the factory and coal plant... Anyway, I should be done with this game tonight...can't wait.:)

Good game Moonsinger.
It seems I might have to revisit tiny chieftain, yet again...

I dont know how far you are in tech, and what you've built, but I'm going to bet on a 1265 finish date, by comparing to my game

It will be close :) (I wont tell you what was my finish date, to keep the suspense).

Thanks! This one is on a standard warlord. My other two were on large Chieftain...what can I say, I pick a table that has absolutely zero entry.

I will soon find out tonight.:)

Mine too. For now that works, but with all the new players (me included), soon it will be time to actually work to make a top spot.

Standard warlord!
Even more impressive!
I have been thinking a little bit, and I think small might be able to compete with tiny.
2 more sci opponents, for more techs on age change and more chance for elite wins, more huts at the start, and better start locations...

Wonder how long till someone does 20k win on huge sid

You know, I have thought about it, and I think Small will actually be easier than Tiny, because it will be much harder for the Civs to contact each other and you only have one extra civ.
What people who havnt tried 20 K Sid forget, is that its not like a milked game at all.
You are using worst terrain possible.
Bear in mind that in Moosinger's game, one AI barely got out of AA and same in mine.

I shudder to contemplate a huge Sid 20k, I'll believe it when I see it, but will let others blaze that path.

You are 100% right on target! At 1260 AD, I was just 7 points away from the 20K...If it wasn't for my stupid mistakes with my 4th SGL, I could have made it by 1260 AD. When I got my 4th SGL, I had to wait a few turns before I could use him, so I parked him out side the capital...then totally forgot about him.:( It was like two turns later when I realized that I forgot to use him. Oh well, I will try to get more sleep next time.:D

PS: I'm going to get some sleep now...I will update MapFinder tomorrow.

Yeah.
20 K culture are boring in the sense that once they are under way, there is not that much you can do to greatly increase your score... specially once in the Industrial Age, so predicting finish date is a pretty precise matter.
Thats also what makes them interesting since each mistake is irrecuperable... :)
Great game btw, specially since this is warlord, std...
I really would like a mini write up some screenshots, explanation whatever...
Btw did you chop forest at the start?

That may have to wait for while. Since I'm going see my sister Texas in a few days, I took out the 512K of Kingston memory (planning to upgrade her system when I'm down there) and replaced it with 1G of GeIL PC4400 Dual DDR kit. The moment I did that, WinXP, and OfficeXP demanding me to Re-Activate again it again! I had successfully reactivated WinXP, but I will have to call Microsoft for a new key for Office XP. Big brothers at Microsoft are watching, one can't change the memory on her system without having to report back to them! I can't access to my 20K spreadsheet until Microsoft given me permission to do so!:(

Btw, I don't remember seeing any forest at my starting location...so there was no chopping! I prebuilded the temple with the Granary and researched for Masonry which gave me my 1st SGL leader for rushing the Pyramid.

You were mentionning prebuilding a temple, and I just noticed you use Sumerians.
How did that go?
Im guessing Babylonians start to lose their powers on bigger maps, and maybe higher difficulties too.
You used UU for GA? When did you do it?

I didn't want to trigger the golden age, but I had no choice. IIRC, the Great Lib triggered my golden age...my government was still in despotism. I didn't go to war until the industrial age which was a big mistake! I was so afraid that a miltary great leader was going to prevent me from getting SGL. I was wrong big time about that.

Here is my gift to you: a tip that I think you won't be able find anywhere else because so far I'm the only one that know about it (as far as I know, of course).;) MGL doesn't in anyway hamper the chance of getting SGL! I have done extensive research and testing to confirm this - so you can trust me on this. I'm 100% sure that the MGL and the SGL are totally two separate subroutines of C3C and one doesn't aware of the other. Therefore, you can save your MGL for as long as you like and would still be getting new SGL (I believe this will be news because I have asked and everyone have said that MGL will prevent the chance of SGL which is wrong!). Too bad, I just discovered it this morning which was way too late to help my game. However, it won't be too late for you. In your next game, start farming for MGL asap, then use MGL to rush the Hero Epic and all other small wonders under the sun. If you don't have any small wonder to rush, just save your MGL for as long as you like because you would still be getting SGL no matter what (like I said, they are two separate routines that doesn't talk/check with each other).

Anyway, you can easily figure out everything you need to know about my game by replaying my final save with Dianthus's CRpViewer. That was how I figured out what you and Smirk did in your games.:)

Umm.. I have read it several times (and experienced it myself), and thought it was well known that you can always get SGLs no matter what, but you can only get MGLs when you have no leaders at all (having either a MGL or SGLs will prevent you from getting another MGL)

Really? Why didn't you tell me? I have asked about this at the general forum before I set out to attempt the 20K. As usual, I have to learn it the hard way.

I must have missed that question.. :(

A hint.. try to type in 'SGL MGL' into the google search field.. the first search result should bring up this link: (I didnt check the other threads returned)
http://forums.civfanatics.com/archive/index.php/t-69141.html

where you can find:
The rule is: You can't get a MGL if you already have ANY leader (SGL or MGL), but you can always get SGLs.

Edit: If you read http://forums.civfanatics.com/archive/index.php/t-61506.html you will see that the same conclusion is reached far down here too :)

Now, I'm really sad because I have duplicated their research.:( There goes my life story...all over again! Everytime I come up with something good, chances are other people have already come up with it.:( This would explain why I don't talk much unless someone ask the right type of question...because everytime I mention something that I thought it's news...it usually turn out to be "old news".
