Moors Civilization Module

I'm gonna try to finish up the UU tonight or tomorrow. I think Delta Force is part of Clash of Civilizations.

I'm probably not using Camel Cavalry though because those are unique for the Arabian Civilization. I'll just use special Horsemen.

I have one more question, but It is totally fine if you don't know.
Do you know if the Moorish Cavalry had stirrups? I would guess so.

Sorry, I don't know, and I can't find a Wiki article on it.

I did find that the stirrup didn't arrive in Europe until the 7th century via invading Avars from the east. It was invented in China about 1000 years earlier, although the earliest form, a toe loop had been invented in India even earlier. By the time of the invasion of Iberia it is possible that the Moors had the stirrup, but I can't be certain.

Sorry it took so long, but I finally did update 1.4

I changed the UU to the Moorish cavalry. I like this UU a million times more also. If you aren't in the middle of a game, I suggest you try the update.

I didn't want to give it a movement bonus, because that sounded too much like the Keshik to me. So I gave it 2 free first strikes.

Great! I will give it a go. I have to start a new game anyway because I was getting my butt kicked in the beta 6 game I had started. :(

Can you upload the file again? I have d/l twice and keep getting the same error that a file is broken (it is Napoleon_nonshader.dds).

Sorry about that. I uploaded the file again.

It may be a slightly different size because I was fixing a bug that I was getting, but no actual changes other than that.

Did the new file work for you?

Also I looked up the Urban Militia and it seems like it was a lot more of a Spanish unit than a Moorish Unit. I saw one thing about how the Moors would use converted Christian soldiers sometimes that were Urban Militias though.

Sorry, I've been busy. Yes, the new file is good. I haven't had time to game test it though, but hopefully will get to it this weekend. I actually don't know the historical context of the Urban Militia, other than they were used in M:TW by the Moors. I do know the Moors did have the Christian soldiers (and I believe cavalry), but whether or not they were converts to Islam, I don't know.

Bad wording on my part. I meant to say they converted from Spain's side to the Moors side. I think they remained Christian.

Ok I think version 1.5 will be the final version. I fixed up a lot of the graphics. The Ksar finally has a unique button, the units have good buttons also. Unless I get a good suggestion or I happen to get a brilliant idea, I don't plan to make another version.

Enjoy my mod.

Are you planning to add other civs? :)

I would like to, but absolutely can not think of any major civilizations that the game doesn't already have. The next biggest one I can think of is Poland but I think a million people could make a better Poland than me (and I'm pretty sure Clash of Civilizations has Poland). I was thinking the goths but they are more barbarian than civilized. I don't have any ideas.

I hate to stick my 2 cents in here, but I am going to anyway. The Goths were not really barbarians, except from the Roman point of view. They were farmers for the most part, and warriors, and they arrived late to the Empire. They fought in the Legions and adopted Roman armor and tactics. They defeated the Romans and went on to rule most of Iberia and northern Italy. I once thought of them as barbarians as well, but I don't anymore. Semi-civilized would be a better term.

As for other ancient peoples, how about the Philistines, the Palestinians, and the Francs (Germanic ancestors of modern France along with the Gauls and Romans). I don't know much of anything about Asian history, but I seem to remember there being a 2nd ethnic group in Japan who is a distinct minority. I am not sure if it is true though. I'm sure lots of peoples are not represented. Just in Europe alone, there were countless peoples such as the Avars who fled west to avoid the Huns. And what about the early peoples of the Italic peninsula who could not stand up to the nascent power of Rome. Then there were the various Hellenic powers and before them, Lydia in Asia Minor and many others there. There were also the Greek Leagues, cities that were banded together in various alliances, and well before that, Mycenae (sp?), Crete, Troy, and a half dozen others who were destroyed by the Sea Peoples. Some of those are already in the game, but I'm sure you see my point. History being as long as it is has a myriad of peoples and cultures to choose from.

I know Grathocke. I probably spent hours reading on various civilizations to try to find another to add to Civilization (and secondly for my own learning). They are all interesting, but I don't feel completely comfortable spending a lot of time on a distinct minority group in a game that contains such generalized civilizations such as "Holy Roman Empire", "Greece", "Native Americans", or even a civilization like "France" was made up by the Gauls, Romans, Francs, Burgundians, as far as I know probably some other Germanic tribes that I don't know by name.

I found another candidate for a civilization in a little known Indonesian empire called the Majapahit Empire. I'd love to add them, because Civ IV could always use more Asian civs in my opinion, but I can barely find any information on them. I am still working on them but I don't know I will finish them.

I've got one for you... how about the Mughals (sp?) ? They were the Islamic rulers of India until about the 1800's I think. [fact check: yes, 1800's] They were overthrown in bloody war by the Maratha, Sikh, and British. Their significance is their blending of Persian and Indian culture with Islam and their Turkic heritage. A really interesting culture that lasted a good 400 years or so.

I could I guess, but I don't know what cities I could use that aren't already in use by the Indian civilization.

I do have a similar civilization on my list (one from Medieval II) that I was highly considering. It is the Timurids. The Timurids are the civilization that founded the Mughal Empire, and they were probably a superpower of the Middle East in their time.

Yes, they were powerful, indeed. Here's a quote from Wikipedia:

"The Timurids (Persian: تیموریان), self-designated Gurkānī (Persian: گوركانى), were a Persianate Central Asian Sunni Muslim dynasty of originally Turko-Mongol descent whose empire included the whole of Central Asia, Iran, modern Afghanistan, as well as large parts of Pakistan, India, Mesopotamia, Anatolia and the Caucasus. It was founded by the militant conqueror Timur (Tamerlane) in the 14th century.

In the 16th century, Timurid prince Babur, the ruler of Ferghana, invaded India and founded the Mughal Empire, which ruled most of the Indian subcontinent until its decline after Aurangzeb in the early 18th century, and was formally dissolved by the British Raj after the Indian rebellion of 1857."

As for city names, maybe you could use Persianized (Farsi) names.

I always thought that Southeast Asia is underrepresented. Unfortunately, information regarding it is very finite, though.

Yeah, an Indonesian civilization would be nice. That area is always so empty on world maps.

If I make another civilization, it will probably be the Timurids or the Majapahit.

Timurids and Majapahit are included in CIV Gold. It might help you. :)

I looked into files of Majapahit in CIV Gold. UB is a replacement of courthouse which give +10% commerce, UU is a replacement of (light) swordsman.
UB seems ok (although it is somewhat weird to see because it is a ceremony, not building), but UU is rather.. boring.
