I know alot of peps would diss this idea but here it goes.

What not make morale a factor the further away from civilization borders?
I never heard of Chinese archers invading rome during ancient times. the reason is the further units got awayfrom what was "know as home" they lost morale to the point where if they didnt turn back, they would lose support from the unit (muntiny)

my idea would have a morale factor for all units (excepting great leaders) that would go down the further and longer they were away fro their home borders. If they dont turn around they would lose health or go barbarian.
something like within 2-5 squares they would lose it slow. 6-15 medium. 16-unlimited Maximum. also time would be exponential, for instance, a unit that is in a city that is still in revolt, would lose morale/health the longer they are in the city revolting.

Just an idea

Go rogue isnt a bad idea, but lose health? They should simply have distance as another +/- on top of abilities, promotions, and tile/cultural defenses.

Huh, this is an interesting idea... Check-out my Great General Amped mod and see if that is the type of effect that you are looking for.

If it is let me know, maybe I can create a unit morale mod component.

I like the idea. Look at Alexander the Great he could have continued on, but he turned arounf after reaching the "end of the world" because is men were wearry of being away from home, some 12+ years I believe.

Kushan Mentioned at the bottom of the thread about alexander. Most of Believe he died of disease, which, if he were in Greece, would have been treated. Hence health does decline because there would be no way to treat it unless there was a medical unit...(interesting idea) but look at our solgiers in Iraq. Most that i have talked to give me the impression that being away from their families for sooo long makes the morale go down and become less effective as troops.

I think losing health (hitpoints) would be simulating desertions and such, not the troops all getting the flu.

HEHHEH that too, thanks

I am no programmer or designer (although i was i could) could someone make a mod for this?
