That's right. More ages. I want LONG EPIC games, and more ages is the way, I would wager. Like in RoN. First it's Ancient Age (Well, Stone Age if ya wanna be all nitpicky about it.:p) Then Classical. Then Medieval, Gunpowder, Enlightenment, Industrial, Modern, and Information.:D

Is this a good idea?:) What are your thoughts?

More ages will lead to more techs.:)

Aw great. Without that

smiley on the Civ4 Ideas forum page, I look like a total n00b with all the !!!!1!!11!;)

Why are there ages at all?

Ya can't have Masonry in one tech, and Satellites just after it.:p

As in the "let's go back to just haveing one big tech tree" Idea. I realy enjoyed having genetic engineering without indutrialization. And Gravity without wheels! And it doesn't seem that odd. After all, as someone else said somewhere (I don't remember who)
"I can know that if I drop an object it will fall to the ground, without knowing that round objects can be used for transportation."

Perhaps, but knowledge builds on itself. Technically you can know how to build a rocket engine without knowing how to read, but how many illiterate rocket scientists are there?

I don't see what the big problem is with having most techs requiring most techs that came before it. :p

You can have the same number of techs in one age as you can have in three. Ages serve no real purpose except to group techs into their historical timeframe.

You can still have the current tech progression without the whole concept of ages.

Edit: I was also wondering about the ones mixed in with the exclamation marks.
:crazyeye:

I don't particularly care about ages. It's an insignificant detail that doesn't change gameplay.

And it's actually a detriment to the immersive feel of the game -- if I'm playing through the history of the Aztecs, let alone China, I'm not exactly going to experience "The Age of Enlightenment".

But how would cities look, with no ages?;)

They'd change after specific technologies, not unlike Civ 2.

Edit 1: Which, by the way, is kind of annoying that the world is totally homogenized by the industrial age. I would like to see some of the details pulled apart and modified gradually and according to the Civ, instead of "woop, industrial age, change the way all the cities look".

Edit 2: nice one, Yuri :)

In Civ2 they just had the cities change appearance after certain technologies, like Industry and automobile.

Edit: Wow, that's a bit on the wierd side...

Now that I look at it i think ages is just a weird concept put into the game which it doen't do much to add gameplay. Lets just have fields of science you research in instead that would be fun and this way you can research different fields at the same time at different speeds according to how much money you put in each field.

That would be nice, but eventually you would need to have some techs in a few other areas of research or you'd end up in very awkward positions. :spear:

More ages, More ages!! I'm speaking in general for those who like to play and create custom scenarios. But there still should be an age limit of like 20 or so.

Why is it necessary to have more ages for modding?

The naysayers have voiced their opinions most, but most people have voted yes in the polls.:hmm:

I'd like more techs and more branches on the tech tree to pursue.
