More in-depth interactivity

After seeing some screenshots, I am looking forward to Civ5. My only wish is that it contains more in-depth interactivity.

Examples:

Military

1. Units such as archers, riflemen, SEALS, etc should require supplies such as ammunition which you can make in a Munitions Factory - this would add more preparations for war.

2. Morale - If your troops are losing too many battles, they become worn down and eventually may refuse to fight.

3. More Civilization specific units - American civ gets the M1A1 Tank, while the English get the Challenger II Tank - Both would represent Modern Armour.

4. Ability to repaint units - If you're in a desert battle, you don't want wood camo units. This should have an actual effect such as +25% Stealth, etc

Economy

1. Separate budgets, such as Military, Education, Healthcare, etc.

2. Add and actual Civ specific currency, e.g. USA - USD ($), UK - GBP (£).

3. More resource types, e.g. Sulfur, Nitrates, etc - To make ammunition, etc

4. Allow States - Allows you to control each area differently, such as tax one area higher than another.

Anyone want to add to the list, feel free to do so.

You are realizing that this proposals would increase difficulty not only for the human player, but especially for the AI, which typically is quite poor in comparison?

So "interactivity" means "micromanagement" plus "random realism features with no gameplay content?".

Nearly all of these would add nothing to the game, and many are actively harmful.

Having your units refuse to fight because you lose battles is a) Not Fun and b) a slippery slope which punishes whoever is already losing.

Specific currencies would add.... what exactly?

Having to separately build *ammunition*? Ugh.

Its not often I agree with you, but this is one. If these are the sorts of thing you want go play actual war games...

Though I wouldn't mind the idea of states and provinces, but I suppose that really thats what the cities actually represent at this present time anyway.

I agree with supply lines, but I think it should be done similar to Hearts of Iron 3 with borders that movie with your units.

I also agree with having more UUs and UBs

The "states/provinces" idea is another i agree with, but it does run the risk of over-complicating things as well, considering that cities in Civ essentially are their state to begin with.

To the 1st part of this suggestion-that would be cool in a "Total War" Mod restricted to a specific era, but not in the Vanilla Game-it would just be tedious MM. As to the 2nd part, I don't mind having Buildings like Munitions factories that are required for modern, non-resource dependent units to be built-or at the least have the construction of such units somehow impact on the growth of your cities.

2. Morale - If your troops are losing too many battles, they become worn down and eventually may refuse to fight.

I've always considered unit hit-points to represent both the manpower & morale of a given unit-so I don't really see the need for a separate morale system.

3. More Civilization specific units - American civ gets the M1A1 Tank, while the English get the Challenger II Tank - Both would represent Modern Armour.

Two words: Diversity Mod. I've no doubt that either (a) this will be implemented as part of the main game or (b) someone will mod it in very soon after the game's release.

1. Separate budgets, such as Military, Education, Healthcare, etc.

This one is intriguing on some levels-we've been informed in a Russian Preview that the Commerce Yield is gone from the game. Perhaps this might mean more power over the distribution of our cash into separate areas. That said, I think they should avoid the slippery slope of increased minutiae-I wouldn't mind a simple system where shifting your slider from science to health reduced your tech rate but boosted the health of your cities-stuff like that. As long as its kept very simple.

2. Add and actual Civ specific currency, e.g. USA - USD ($), UK - GBP (£).

Don't see the point myself.

3. More resource types, e.g. Sulfur, Nitrates, etc - To make ammunition, etc

I'm all for having more resources, but what you're suggesting is just a little too extreme. Plus, they tried having saltpeter as a resource requirement for gunpowder units, & it led to a very unfun game experience IIRC. Again, though, maybe in a mod it would be good.

4. Allow States - Allows you to control each area differently, such as tax one area higher than another.
OK, I confess I'm a bit on the fence about this one. I don't agree with the idea of having entirely different states, but it would be nice if you could-for example-tax Vassal States/Colonies at a higher or lower rate than your empire-or have Social Policies which treat minorities in your empire differently from the majority.

Aussie.

Although I disagree with most of your other ideas, this one sounds quite interesting to me! Maybe you could decide what kind of camo you want from a list on the build screen?

For example:
  1. Wood Camo (for forests & jungles)
  2. Sand Camo (for deserts & coasts)
  3. Grass Camo (for grasslands & plains)
  4. Stone Camo (for hills & mountains)
  5. Ice Camo (for tundra & ice)

I wanted interactivity, but in a different form. Micromanagement from the older games dragged on time and was unneeded. Some of your ideas are good, but I'm looking for things that make it feel like a civilization.

1: I like the idea
2: That would just start a downward spiral if you lost a couple battles.
3: You mean just different names or with different bonuses?
4: It's OK...

1: How would that work?
2: What's the point?
3: ... Too many resources.
4: Call them provinces, then I will support it whole-heartedly.

I was thinking with this, you could tie it to the initial upgrade, so whatever terrain upgrade you pick thats what camo/look you get.
