I can add my name to the long list of folks with mouse troubles, but I did not see a post quite like what I am seeing.

The game installed successfully and start fine. I have music and clear crisp video up through the the intro movies. Unfortunately when the first menu is presented, the cursor is in the center of the screen and I have to fight for my life to get it to move an inch. It will eventually slide over slightly, but only after vigorous flailing back and forth along the mouse pad.

I have updated the sound driver, video driver, and mouse driver with no impact. Loaded the game on my work laptop, and it works like a charm, but I really need to get this to work on my home computer. I tried turning on the debug logs in the civ.ini file, but they were not especially informative.

Basic specs on my machine are below. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

kevin

System Specs:
Proc: P4 1.6 GHz
RAM: 1 GB
Video: ATI Radeon 9000 (Driver from december)
Sound: SiS 7012 on board
Mouse: Labtec wireless

You may have seen this .... but,

A few have discovered that their mouse trals were turned in the driver. The trail was no visible on screen as the trail effect in the driver was turned down to minimum - however thats still "on" and loads into memory. Turning trails off in the driver removed the problem.

Not all succeeded with this, many have tho, quick and easy to check

Yeah, I saw a few posts about mouse trails and I checked it. Mine were never turned on.

Thanks for replying.

I have now tried version 5.1 and 6.1 of the drivers from ATI with still no change. Here is a DxDiag from my system if anyone can see anything jumps at ya'.

The card (9000) will cause issues as you get more into the game - for now looks like your ok, which is great, but bare in mind the limited graphics power later on if it goes bang ..

This may not help the cursur problems, but may help a few other things. The 9000 is an old card, worth a try with an older - therefore more stable - set of drivers.

Click ATI Radeon - then Win 2K XP - then Archive

Try Radeon Omega Drivers 2.5.97a (Catalyst 4.12)
if no joy then Radeon Omega Drivers 2.6.87 (Catalyst 5.12)

Also increase the pagefile to 2000mb, and try updated sound drivers (yours are March 2004)

Keep a copy of current drivers so you can roll back - even set a XP restore point if you want to be Ultra safe.

Well after trying every driver known to man and having zero success, I finally got around to trying the simple solution. I unplugged my wireless mouse and keyboard and took a basic PS2 mouse and keyboard and plugged them. Wouldn't you know it, everything works fine now.

If you have a Labtec wireless mouse and keyboard, and you are having issues, you might want to try this.

I may eventually try to figure out how to get it to work with the wireless which I vastly prefer, but for now the game plays and I am happy with that.
