Put simply, Socialists are generally more left-wing than Social Democrats, who tend to be more centre-left in their outlook.

So, Social Democrats are more like labor?
(Sorry, I mean more like new labour :o )

OR is it so that people who think the 'USSR' system rocked are socialists?

You've got it. I presume you mean 'New' Labour?

Well they could be socialists, but not all socialists would be supporters of the The USSR. That category wouldn't exclude democatic socialists found in many Democracies, etc.

I think that most could guess mine, but one voted "fascist" for the record, as "evil dictatorship" was not an option;)

I voted Conservative since I support law of the jungle economics, the free market, phsiocracy, and stuff like that. I also oppose abortion, and support strict interpretation of the Constitution. Also I support gun rights.

So that would be Conservative, mabey even part Anarchist.

:king:

So in fact you are neo-liberal and not conservative?

I voted liberal, btw. :)

Eh? Are you saying Conservatives don't support Free market economics?

Yes they do. But not to the "law of the jungle" - extent. Thinking about it there could be some confusion about political labels. In Sweden we call those people "nyliberaler", not conservatives. I translated that to "neo-liberals". But I have to admit that I am not absolutely sure about the expression existing in English, nor that it means the same as in Swedish.

Well yes. I support neo-liberalism, not the type of liberalism that is associated with the Democratic or similar parties though. I like the kind of Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell.

Jeffersonian type government :goodjob:

In the past it was called liberalism, now it is associated with conversativism. Hmm seems like the definitions have changed.

I also oppose income taxes.

It seems there are two types of 'liberalism' the one that Adam Smith adovocated and the type that is supported by left parties of today.

No, these people are just weird (or Stalinists ;) ).

Social Democrats are what Labour once was. Todays "New" Labour is rather a liberal party ("Neo-Liberalism").
The difference between Socialist and Social Democrats is not extremely sharp. It is like Hamlet said, Socialist are tendencially more on the left while Social Democrats are more centrist.
Socialists want more regulation of the economy as Social Democrats, though both want more than Liberals (in the European sense).

But many parties that once started as Social Democrats have moved more to the center, so Liberals would fit them better.
For example the German Social Democratic Party exists since the 19th century. Back then it held strong socialist views. Today it is almost like Blair's New Labour.

I personally don't align with any party or ideology. My views are extremely liberal on MOST social issues, and rather on the left on MOST economic issues. Maybe classic Social Democrat (Willy Brandt, Olof Palme) would fit me best but definetely not the present Social Democrats.
But I disagree with the sometimes dogmatic views of traditional Social Democracy therefore I'm independent. ;)

Liberalism and neo-liberalism are completely different, at least when using those names the way it is done in my country. I don´t know too much about the politics of New Labour, but I would hesitate calling them neo-liberals.

Anarchist... but then, with the majority being total idiots, that might not be so good....
And htf can you be all of the above???? Liberal, Conservative, Monarchist, Communist all in one???? ya must be schizo:crazyeye:

Labour were arguably once democratic socialists. I would not really be able to classify the party of today as 'liberal.'

I believe this 'neo-liberalism' that is being talked about may be libertarianism.

I think neo-liberalism refers rather to economic issues than to social ones, while libertarianism refers to both.

About Labour having been democratic socialists. That may be appropriate, but then the question has to be where the difference between a democratic socialist and a social democrat really is. After all there's no clear definition for either terms so you could call yourself basically any of these.

Although the Anglo-American tests rated me Libertarian or Cenrist, I voted Conservative. Here in Germany I?m a member of the Christian Democrats and (in German standards) I?m quite right-winged (except for economics).
