We should be able to chose different options for national affairs, not only by chosing if we want communism, democracy etc. What about free market economy, command economy, taxes, opression of the people, free people? This should create more ways to make your country grow. For example, if you want to be communist, you should opresse the people and have command economy. So there would be many combinations to make and every would be more or less effective. Yet it recquires some economics knowledge from firaxis and patience from the community, but it would make out of CIV a more long termed game. :goodjob:

I got this idea after reading the article about slavery and free speach, which would have a bigger impact in your civ. Thus my suggestion should be programmeable by Firaxis.

Eh?

Need more explanation on that, my game's on German :)

Civ 3 already has oppersion...... Rush Buildings? Free Market........ Faster Workers.......Communism........Better Spies.

Civ 4 should expand on these features, but those you reccomend have already been implented.

Yeah, but those differences are so cursory, Armada. Ultimately, all governments come down to Democracy during peace and Communism/Fascism during war. If I have a democracy, I want to be able to choose between a Swedish style semi-planned economy, or a US-style free-market economy. Or, if I go fascist, perhaps I want an authoritarian government, but without the nationalism or militarism which goes with it. Having a good civic system would go a long way towards allowing greater differention between civs who even have the same 'broad' government type-just like it is in the real world.

Pick up a copy of Alpha Centauri. The societal model in SMAC is pretty much what you described.

I, for one, would LOVE to see a SMAC-style government/societal model in cIV.

yeah the SMAC system was pretty good. It provided a lot more choices and options. Though the choices you make should have a greater effect on the overall game. If you choose communism, the democratic civs should start to dislke you a bit more and vice versa. that could be evolved into a Black and White idea of a "good" and "evil" path of leadership. good leaning towards freedom of speech, evil towards oppression and slavery etc.
