Why don't you just try something that looks interesting and discover the game for yourself? I didn't become good at the Civ games by reading a bunch of guides or copying other players, I became better by playing a lot and learning through trial and error. Isn't that the whole point of playing games in the first place, to enjoy new experiences and have fun?
