I cant seem to get right with maps like PlanetGenerator and Totestra. They seem like they mock me by giving me nothing to work with and the AI gets just enough to pull ahead.

I dont want a cheaty start map, i wish i was given similar res that the ai gets (which is never the case).

For ab extremely res dependent mod, this mod has so many map gens that starve you of that. I understand luxuries but when its Copper, Timber or Iron...

Feels like you are either trying too high a difficulty level for your own comfort, or are suffering from excessive perfectionism. With a perfect start, winning is so much easier, but it doesn't mean that one needs a perfect start every time. Try kicking difficulty down one notch but play with whatever cards you're dealt. Or not, ultimately everyone must find their own way to have fun. As for map scripts, I generally like Totestra and comfortably play at Monarch.

I dont think its the difficulty, Monarch is my confort difficulty. I think you directly hit on me regarding perfectionism. Might be past syndromes from other mods/civ itself, especially since im not yet used to this mod's comeback mechanics.

Is it a matter of resources, may layout, terrain features, or something else? I've modified the RI_Totestra map to be more to my liking, so I might be able to give some advice on how to round out what you're looking for

Its more of just getting always jungle/no luxury. But thanks, theres also some guilty pleasure on not messing it too much around and keeping it more "vanilla"

Jungle starts often feel the most powerful; they do call for a certain rather narrow strategy, but having lots of jungle around the starting position definitely doesn't feel like a bad start to me.

Is it because of the slash n burn farm? If so then i just suck at dealing with epidemics.

Speaking of which, is it bad that im too diseased by RFC that the best map i perform is the world maps?

Scenarios with predetermined starts often have their own ways of difficulty: It is not only set by whatever difficulty setting you selected, but also your civ choice. It's fun that you mention RFC, I am a huge fan of RoC (the Civ3 predecessor of it), and there, starting as Zulus on Chieftain can easily be a harder game than starting as England on Emperor. However, it is intentional (so that civs with lots of "uncontested" land like in Africa or Siberia don't just get far away from the more clustered european or middle eastern areas and also mentioned in the scenario readme, so there's that.

But I too feel that given a specific difficulty, the world maps play a bit easier than the same difficulty on a random map. I believe it has to do with how freely AIs can act (settling and conquering) before hitting issues. Not a problem for me, really, you can just manually adjust the difficulty setting upwards as necessary, and I love playing on them. I doubt I'll ever get to the pointing of needing a difficulty option beyond deity (I'm nowhere close), so I'm set for life regardless of how much "easier" the world maps are :D
I think "AI plays to win" also makes them perform a bit better on the world map in particular, as they will have far fewer qualms about eating up neighbours.
