Most Impressive Building?

La Segrada Familia in Barcelona is amazing, along with the rest of Gaudi's work, but I think thats the only piece of his that could be counted in the "Most Impressive Buildings List"

La Pedrera is also mind-bending though.

You have beaten me on that, so I'll choose another one.

I saw this aqueduct when I was 6 yo. and impressed me.

Like le Pont du Gard, made by the romans like 2000 years ago and still can deliver water to the City.

Romans were so clever that they made the arcs large enough so trucks and busses would be able to go through 2000 years later

Since I couldn't find a pic that covers the whole aqueduct I post two views of it.

I wonder if that's because we designed our roads to be the same width as the ones the Romans used...

I figured you knew.

I find it interesting that the dimensions of the fuel assemblies used for the space shuttle are based on those same chariot ruts...

Interesting? Or maybe the chariot ruts were based on the fuel assemblies from an alien spacecraft!

;)

Naw, I think those were designed to the specifications of a couple of horses' asses.

Unless the horses came from another planet...

world trade center, they were freaking huge, only drove by them once, but that was enough to understand how big they were.

i think edinburgh castle(i think that's the name) in bonnie wee scotland is very beautiful, it just melds into the hill it's on.

The Empire State Building, a real beautiful building that is also really tall.
The Empire State Building from the little indoor deck all the way on the top. What a view! Although the 86th floor deck is quite good also. The enterance is nice also. I'm sure the floors all in between are usual office space.

Yankee Stadium also, for me. Large and full of baseball, the place I saw 1,001 times on television, with its history and its own essence..

Statue of Liberty as well, looking out to the city. Don't know how the crown is, since that's been closed since 2001. The museum inside was also interesting.

New York's City Hall on the inside is beautiful. It's not huge or anything, but it does look nice. And it's nice on the outside as well.

Obviously, I haven't been around much. Even the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty I only got to last December.

I've taken the bus under them...yeah, I remember trying to crane my neck to see the top.

They were huge and impressive - but ugly. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't happy when they came down or anything.. quite the opposite. I just think that they were ugly!

^ Yeah. I mean they were impressive with their large size, but really sorta boring looking.

There just...square.

Northtown Mall. No matter how many blows to the head it takes, it always seems to recover by at least a little bit.

The Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey.

Paraguay hasn't got any money, they couldn't possibly build something of that scale.

Well, I didn't know much about it, but I always thought it was Paraguayan but built with Brazilian money.

And when I looked up electricity exports on the CIA World Factbook last year, Paraguay had this ridiculously high export figure. So I figured they counted the generators as Paraguayan.

The Sears Tower.

John Hancock Center.

These are my choices, seeing as how they are the only buildings of considerable size or beauty that I have seen in person.

I should also add Grand Central Terminal to my list. Impressive, with stores and restaurants, and trains (okay, not that many lines on the subway, but trains galore none the less...LIRR access also to be coming...eventually.

City Council Chamber
Folding Chairs for a large audience, they must have moved out the regular Council seats and tables. There's also a gallery overlooking the Chamber. And I couldn't find anything that also showed the paintings that are in the Chamber.

Well, the Vietnam Wall in Washington has an incredible effect of silencing anything around it...

But if you're looking for something with a roof, the Air Force Cathedral in Colorado Springs takes the cake.

I imagine it would have an astounding ability to silence people. Though I must admit the Air Force Cathedral is pretty cool.

I also thought the Castillo de San Marcos was cool as well. Especially the walls that were made of coquina.

Most dissapointing must have been one of the & Wonders of the World:
Mausoleum of Maussollos

Visited it with a girlfriend while on holiday in turkey- happily blabbing on how i knew about its exhistance from Civ3 and how i wanted to see what as left..

Well, viturally NOTHING! beyond a few blocks of stone, everything has been destroyed and ransacked repeatedly though the ages.. kinda put me off travelling to the locations of the other 6 during my lifetime. Still desire to see the pyramids of course however.

Others have already named lots of my favorite buildings, so I will give you some new ones

Chambord: a majestic castle in France
The 'Meteora' Monasteries in Greece

I thought Kansai International Airport was pretty impressive.

While there are many words I would use to describe the Gherkin, not all of them flattering, I suppose it is certainly impressive.

The most impressive building near where I live would have to be Fukuoka Tower (as seen in Godzilla vs Space Godzilla!).
