Most interesting 20th century dictator?

You have compiled a list of the great bastards of the 20th century each one reponsible for many deaths, pain and misery.

I find the title interesting quite ofending, since they have no interesting features whatsoever, they are all egocentric maniacs who would kill their own blood in the persuate of power.

The day history stops seeing these scum as great man will be a day to remember.

none really, but Kim Jong Il of Korea is interesting, not in the normal since, but more in the hmmm something is wrong with that guys head interesting

hehe I like learning about Stalin because there are so many funny weird facts about him.

Stalin. I've got Hitler covered, but Stalin I don't know nearly as much about and he is intriguing.

Spare us. None of us think they were good human beings, to be emulated. But the fact remains, they all had certain qualities that made them very good at what they did, and they are interesting to study. After all, what is the use of refusing to look at history?

Well excuse me all to Hell. I mean, it's not at all interesting that Pol Pot thought what he was doing was best for Khmer, or that Mao Zedong actually liberated his country from oppressors before killing 50 million people.

When did I say, or even imply any of them were "great?"

I've always thought that "great" meant that they were powerful or influential, not that they went to heaven when they died. I don't know who Sani Abacha is but most of the people listed in the poll fit that description.

Woah, I resent the idea that because I find these men interesting (its a tough call for me because dictators are my specialty) I some how consider them great men. I know people who find serial killers fascinating, who find horrible diseases interesting, etc. etc.
You don't have to have Cancer to study it.

My choice is Atatürk, a much more admirable person than those on the list.

I wouldn't think that any humane person would admire any of these dictators...I think they're interesting...but I don't admire them!

That said, I have to go with one of the most underestimated dictators on the list, Benito Mussolini. The more you read about him the more you realise he wasn't the buffoon he's often depicted as, and is arguably one of the most influential men of the 20th century.
Mussolini is very interesting, as is Fascist Italy, both in it's rise, reign, and fall. I find it very funny that this lesser-known man was practically worshipped by Hitler, whom Mussolini thought a childish fool.

I thought it was the other way around. Hitler didn't "worship" Mussolini! I don't remember the exact quote but Hitler said something like this, "If they want to be my ally I can defend them with one regiment. If not I can defeat them with one regiment." And one more thing, how do you know what Mussolini was thinking? And anyway, Italy was pathetic as an "empire". They got Libya on their own, and failed to capture Ethiopia without help from the Germans, they couldn't beat guys with Spears for Christ's sake...But in the end, I think both Hitler and Mussolini were both psychos in their own special way.

The first women dictator will get my vote

Italy actually didn't need Germany's help against Ethiopia; however, they did need to get bailed out by Germany in Greece and Africa.

What has all that to do with Hitler worshiping Mussolini?

In fact Hitler admired Mussolini deeply and modeled his nazi party after Mussolini´s fascisti.
