Most powerful Navy's in the world today?

Yes, I meant modern cruisers/destroyers/frigates.

As I'm sure you meant comparing a Treaty Cruiser with their Contemporary destroyers ; because frankly, comparing an Arleigh Burke Flight IIA with a treaty cruiser...similar length, similar displacements...;-)

so basically there are are destroyers and there are carriers, right?
wow lol in my scenario i have frigates pegged as units with 40 atk and destroyes with like 35

You the subs. The carriers are the point of modern naval supremacy but, for all their escorts, are b1tches to the subs.

Where you judge navies you are off the beam where you disregard subs. Equally you disregard the auxillaries. In terms of force projection a carrier isnt worth jack without hospital carriers, oilers, transports and so on and so forth.

The carriers are key, but the subs are worth more than the destroyers and without the auxilaries it would all be a pyric victory in any event.

The interest of the thread, so far, has been mostly on combat navies ; which is what I was paying attention to.

If you add in auxiliaries, it complicates matters greatly, and moves beyond what the thread has mostly been about, ie, pure fighting powers, rather than power projection.

Submarines...yes, they are an important, and I noted so ; a fleet with a significant submarine advantage could easily win despite a carrier disadvantage. Which is why my original post mention that submarines "may warrant upgrading a fleet beyond its normal position".

But they are essentialy an outside factor, with very different uses (from where I stand), hence why I did not employ them in establishing classes.

I think it is because including them would probably increase your number of classes by an order of magnitude, and you just don't want to do that. ;)

This is to everyone saying that the Chinese navy shouldn't be high on the list.

We all know the awesomeness that is the US navy is unequaled in the world. But, even with the massive power projection capable with super carriers such as the Kitty Hawk, this article shows how a single last-gen electric-deisel sub could possibly tip the balance of power in a regional, maybe even world wide conflict.

Sorry if someone already posted on this, I missed it when I browsed the thread.

Already posted a few links back indeed.

The general conclusion was that, yes, submarines are good - but most every navies has good subs. The Indian subs are a match for their PLAN counterpart, the Japanesse as good or even better, etc.
