Most WTH Civ IV moment?

I dunno if this qualifies, but my WTH moment happened in real life. I was at my local gym when this good looking brunette jumps on the treamill beside me. hadn't seen her before so I thought i'd chat with her a little, maybe get to know her. We talked for a while and it turns out we both like civ. Turns out we both know about this forum and we both hang out here. turns out we've both never played an MP game. I complain that my favorite mod -BAT- doesn't wok in MP. She says she's trying to fix that.

Turns out she's Lemon Merchant

Can Lemon Merchant confirms this?

Yes, I can confirm it, though I don't remember Gurn being as suave and confident as he lets on.. It is, however, not my WTH Civ moment...

Mine was during a late game, long ago. I had several large stacks of Modern Armor, Mech Infantry, etc, stacked at Gilgy's borders waiting to sweep in. Someone had built the Manhattan Project, but Gilgy only had a fort on uranium, not a mine. I didn't think that he had nukes because of that. I had no turns left for my stacks to move, but stupidly declared anyway and sent in bombers and fighters to soften up a few cities, and do some reconnaissance. Then a quick mop up and a conquest win, or so I thought...

The next turn started, and Gilgy hit every stack I had with Tac Nukes, and he hit my cities with ICBMs. I was finished. I learned that day that forts provide the resource they're planted on, and to spend more on espionage. :(

Well, at least now we know she is a fellow Canuck... :D
I'm not a true Canuck. I've only been a citizen for a few years. And I'm not a fan of Tim's (I know, heresy!)

Tim's coffee is very run-of-the-mill, so I don't blame you on that, Their donuts though... those are better than any equivalent American chain that I've ever had. That said, truly-fresh, straight-out-of-the-fryer donuts are incomparably better than all chain-store I've ever had. So... yeah, a love of Tim's does not make a Canuck.

Hockey though.....!

Ever had Krispy Kreme donuts? As someone who has had both Tim's and a few different American based chains there is no comparison. Krispy Kreme I swear must put cocaine in there donuts. They are that good and addicting.

Mine was sort of similar: I got declared on at by a Friendly civ, and I was unprepared because I thought that that couldn't happen. It turns out he was plotting at Pleased, and I got him to Friendly in the middle of plotting. He never stopped plotting, and I ignored his huge SoD at my borders. "Whatcha doing with all those Grenadiers, Shaka?"

Only if the "Hot Doughnuts" sign is lit. And please stop posting all in red - it's killing my eyes to read it.

Yeah, I've had Krispy Kreme. It's pretty much who I was comparing Tim's too. And for me, the most addictive is Tim's Sour-Cream glazed donut/timbit, of which if I had a mountain, I would eat until I died.

Just started a new game small fractal map, 5civs. I rolled Stalin, found 3 nearby civs, Suly as the closest. Decided to invade using 1 archer 3 warriors. At the border of Suly's empire the Vedic Aryan event occurred popping 4 archers right next to my small invasion force. The Aryans ignored my units going for the city capture. Losing 3 archers leaving a single archer to defend against my 4 units. Barbs kill the Ottomans, I kill the barbs. Damn easy take down, 3 rivals left.

I have never experienced an "WTH" moment in my life ! -> It is because I am so perfect and that's abaut it !!!! hahahahaha

I swear that Shaka will declare at "I love you, let's get married." :D

Shaka is incapable of seeing a disconnect there, DoWing is like breathing, inevitable and done without thinking.

But I must say, getting married closely resembles DoWing anyway. You invade their territory, make their stuff your stuff, their friends hate you for moving in and taking over, you undergo a flurry of activity together in the beginning which eventually calms to a slow trickle of resistance after a short time, and if it doesn't go as planned you call a halt to it and try to try to procure as much tech out of the deal as you possibly can.

Except that she takes half of your tech when she leaves. ;)

Not if you've got a pren up:).

Anyways, mine was when I was playing a particularly frustrating game as Catherine of Russia. I had Tokugawa and Zara Yaquob as my neighbors and I declared on Zara Yaquob (he was pleased with me, but everyone knows that means nothing) but Tokugawa declares on me at the same time. The kicker, they didn't have a defensive pact. Nope it was just two buddies deciding to band together to push back the big bad Soviet Union which was the biggest most advanced power in the world. To this day, I'm still wondering since when did Tokugawa make friends. He is supposed to be the isolationist.

If you can get him to share a war with you, he'll be willing to sign an OB with you and become your friend.

or he just thought invading you while you were occupied was a good idea

No, that isn't the case. I replayed the game from that save (I know I know people will accuse me of cheating but I am not a very good player okay, cut me some slack. At least I don't world builder out armies) and didn't invade anybody. Like clockwork, the two AI DoWed at the exact same turn together. Zara Yaqoub even sent some troops to help Tokugawa out at our border because I was trouncing the poor guy. Well that might not quite be his thought process,as he is an AI, but some Ethiopian troops went to the same place as Japanese troops. It was weird seeing the AI kind of coordinating their assaults.

Needless to say, I soon gave up on that game. Perhaps a better player than I could have won but I prefer not to be the one being invaded.

THAT is exactly what makes you a true canuck :D

And about coffee, don't get me started... I had the fortune of working with costarrican coffee exporters during the late 90's, on site, and what I can tell you is that the north American market is completely and utterly ignorant of what a really excellent coffee is about... suffices to say that it is NOT what Hortons or Starbucks sell... at all. It is the opposite (most people here would not believe me if I describe it, as their understanding of coffee quality is upside down... costarricans laugh their heads off because they can enjoy premium coffee locally at local prices while they export the "crappy produce" to NA... at premium prices)

Oh well...
