Mouse flickering problem

Hi everyone! I've been reading these boards for a long time, but have never decided to start posting.

Well, here's my problem. I recently moved overseas, and I bought a laptop to take with me. I installed civ 4 onto my computer (no expansions). The game itself runs fine, but the mouse cursor keeps flickering nonstop. Sometimes on the main menu, the mouse cursor flickers, as well as a surrounding squares around it.

Here's some relevant stats:
Windows XP
Geforce Go 6100
1 gig ram
AMD Turion 64 Dual-Core
Patch 1.61

I updated the drivers as well, so I don't think that's a problem too, and I believe I'm up to date with the DirectX. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and that didn't help.

If anyone can help me with this problem, I'd appreciate it. I can't play more than 15 minutes without the flickering mouse cursor giving me headaches.

Make sure hardware acceleration for cursor is fully enabled

Right-click on desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot

Hi, thanks for responding,

I've tried that, and my hardware acceleration is already on the max. I played around with the settings a bit, and it didn't change anything.

Does XP have Service Pack 2? Is your mouse PS2 or USB? What mouse driver do you have? I'm assuming that only the mouse flickers, everything else is fine. What is your monitor's refresh rate?

Is your mouse a Logitech mouse? Logitech's Intellipoint 6.1 driver seems to have some trouble with full-screen apps...

Ahh! I got it fixed. Under mouse pointer options, I had the "display pointer trail" on the very minimum. It was completely unnoticable for normal applications, but it made Civ IV act crazy.

Thanks for everyone's help. I appreciate it.
