I am searched over 50 pages of mouse problems and have not found an answer to my problem. This is my problem, and maybe someone can help me with it.

I have played Civ 4 once. On the next load the mouse just froze. I see the little icon, but it does not move. If I alt tab out, the same thing is going on in windows. No it isn't the "invisible" mouse issue, and the mouse trailers do not help.

I have tried using 3 different mice. A usb cordless logitech laser mouse, a USB corded microsoft optical mouse, and even a corded dell ps2 roller mouse. Same thing with all three.

I have tried updating everything from windows, game, mouse, video, etc. I have restarted the computer multiple times. I have not done a reinstall yet. I would hate to reinstall the game everytime this happens.

Any suggestions on what to do next?

I am attaching my dxdiag file.

Trying to work this out still. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall.

I used this method, and still the mouse goes dead when I get to the main menu. It works in game up to that point. Meaning I can click through the intro's but on the main menu it will not let me select, move, etc.

Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4

Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61

Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.17

I thought I had an answer until about 20 seconds ago.

I installed windows SP3 and closed a ton of programs.

Played 2 full hours no problem.

Reboot Played another hour.

2 days later, back to the same old stuff. Hmm still stumped.

I had the same problem today and it was a conflict with a headset driver. I had to change the audio settings to default to use the mouse with game.

You are right. I just figured it out before I read your post. If I use my USB headset, it conflicts with the game. I guess the game thinks it is my mouse. If unplug or set my sound (in control panel) to the sound card, it works fine.

I verified this by plugging in, starting game. No mouse.

Unplugged and start game, mouse works.

Why it didn't work with my ps2 mouse, I don't know but at this point I don't care lol. I am playing.

I hope this might help someone else.

Consider this one SOLVED.
