Mousepads -- antiquated?

I like mousepads, mainly because I don't like running my mouse over hard surfaces when at a table. The mousepad just feels...right.

Laser mice work well without a mousepad on most surfaces. Only if it doesn't work on that surface would a par even occur to me.

Which is why I'm lucky to have a Microsoft BlueTrack mouse. Works on any surface, as far as I know.
