alright I've recently begun setting up my basement to be sort of a hang out room and I've added a CD player down there so I can listen to some of my CD's

my problem is I would prefer to not have the originals down there since they might get scratched up, but they won't play because for some reason they automatically become mp3's when I copy them

I'm using media player, is there some way to get them back to some type of file that will work on an old CD player?

you'll have to burn them back into standard Audio-CD format. Most cd-burning-software (e.g Nero) can do it. IIRC Mediaplayer can do that as well.

Of course you'll lose the compression, meaning that once again you'll only be able to fit around 74 minutes on a CD
