Welcome to the official thread for the first succession game for CFC MSDGers.

If you are unfamiliar with the concept of Succession Games, do not fear: they are quite simple to understand and can be quite helpful (if you don't mind everyone scrutinizing your every move ;)). Essentially, in a succession game, people take turns playing the same game - each person taking up where the previous person left off.

This game will be Open in nature, meaning that there is no set sequence of play and no set list of players. Anyone can take the save and play it at any time and in any order, with the following rules:
  • You must play with version 1.14f.
  • You must post in this thread an "I got it" post before you can play the game. Once you have the save, you will have 48 hours to play your turns and post the save. After that time, it will be assumed that you are not going to play the save and someone else can play the save.
  • You must post a summary of your moves along with the save once you have completed your turns. The summary can be as brief or as descriptive as you like. Try to include reasons for your decisions as well.
  • Each player will play 10 turns at a time.
That's pretty much it. I've got the save created and it's ready to play. I chose mostly random settings, but I did choose China and continents (2) since those two settings most closely resemble the MSDG (to the best of our knowledge). I also chose Monarch as our level of difficulty.

Granted, the first 10 turns will fly by rather quickly as there are likely to be 3 or 4 without any unit activity whatsoever. Go ahead and take 15.

Remember, the idea is not so much to win this game or to see how far we can get, but rather to explore strategies and seek advice from our fellow MSDGers. Be sure to post your summary after you play.

Note: I had been using the Zip Install fix to switch between 1.14f and 1.21f and it was working nicely for me. I'd definitely recommend this to everyone who wishes to use both 1.14f and 1.21f.

4000BC- Nice start. :DSix bonus grasslands and five with extra gold. Moved the worker NW for some exploring. Settled were we landed. Started Pottery at 100%(done in 14 turns) for some granaries. Beijing started Warrior for exploration.

3950BC- Worker started road on bonus grass.

3900BC- ...

3850BC- Worker finished road and skipped Pottery to extra science, going to be done in 8 turns now. Started Mining.

3800BC- ...

3750BC- Warrior finished, began exploring. Started another warrior.

3700BC- Worker finished mine, started on another Bon. Grass. Seems like we have some desster below :(

3650BC- ...

3600BC- Silks found!!

3550BC- Beijing finished Warrior, started Barrack for Pre-Building Granary in two turns. Worker finished road and began Mine. New Warrior will begin exploring north.

3500BC- ...

3450BC- Pottery found. Began Bronze Working at max. done in 12 turns. No other civ found. Changed queue in Beijing from Barracks to Granary in 13 turns.

3400BC- Worker finished mine and began on another tile with bon.

3350BC- ...

3300BC- ...

Ok, we got some nice terrain... After Granary I suggest at least 2 settler in a row. For research, I reccommend finishing Bronze and going for Math. (a good trading chip, even on Diety). For settler placement, the west on the Silks on the coast is where I ws thinking was good place and south near the wheat.

Ok, good luck! :D

Pic on the next post... :D

Contructive Critiscm are always welcom! :D

Those elephants are going to be mighty flattered that you describe their ivory tusks as silk-like in texture. :)

Great job focusing on the tiles near the river - the extra commerce should help quite a bit. I think that's one of the most overlooked things in the early game.

For city placement, I'd consider building it on top of the westernmost ivory tile. I'd also begin building a road to that destination once we completely develop the current tile - possibly the forest, then W and W to connect the two cities?

Why in 1.14? I don't want to have to uninstall the patchs...

1.14f is the current version of the MSDG and, for the moment, is the only version available overseas. I chose that version so that all players, regardless of their locations around the world, can participate in this game.

Besides, you could always use the Zip method of switching between versions. ;) I've done it and it's rather simple to do.

Just delurking as they say in the SG forum. ;)

1 - You should have moved your settler 1 NE to get the coast, and so that the NE section of land could be used. Now you're going to have 2 worthless 1 food/0 shield tiles on the coast.

2 - The general rule of thumb is to build mines first, then road.

3 - You're working on your third tile. I hope you plan to expand that way.

4 - Silks? Or did you mean ivory? If so, maybe that worker should have been building a road 1 SW of its' current location.

5 - Instead of gifs, use jpgs with 15% compression.

6 - If this were a secure forum, I'd probably move it. :D

Sorry, I couldn't play the save tonight. I will have to let it go. I stuffed up another SG, playing with the wrong patch, and had to redo my go.

1. I havent made my first settler, but when the next player plays they should. ;)
2. Yes, I thought that, but what I also thought that getting the extra gold fast when you areresearching ar 100% it drops it.
3. Yeah. I was planning on improving the first 3 tiles(which is need to make the settler) and start connectig cities. ;)
4. Yes lol, I have made that mistake before, I meant ivory ;).
5. ??? whats jpgs???
HOpe I answered your questions ;)

1 - I meant the first settler that you started with.
5 - Use a decent image editor, and you'll know. ;) Do a search for a "free graphics editor", and you should find a site with a list of them.

One question, who has the save? since I am interested in picking up the save :).
