Multi-monitor support

FYI, for ati users, setting your multiple monitors for infinity mode works. However my framerate dropped to next to nothing. I didn't attempt to tweak it (I had everything at max) and it's possible that my drivers were at fault (either the eyefinity or crossfire portion). I just set it back to normal.

Here's a screenshot of 3-monitor.

 yummy

I wonder if you can do hexa Eyefinity (that is to say use six monitors)

I'd also love some extra functionality for a 2nd monitor, even just statistics/civilopedia would be handy.

I'm also having a scrolling problem. Primary monitor on the left (with game) and I cannot scroll to the right without making tiny micro-movements toward the side. Too far and the cursor goes off to the other monitor. I remember there being a mouse-jail application that I used to use in the past which would lock the mouse to the one monitor. Not sure if this is still around or if it works with Windows 7 etc.

This could be troubling since I use 3 monitors. Does that mean that it will be difficult for me to scroll on both sides?

I wonder what would happen if I enabled eyefinity to make one giant 5040 x 1050 screen. Has anyone tried that yet?

Yes it is a pain to scroll left and right. I have found two work arounds. One use the arrow keys/minimap etc... (Very poor solution). Two I temporarily disable the extra monitors. Fortunately Win7 remebers their location, resolution, and rotation settings.

Still Firaxis should have tested something this simple. I currently have a case pending with them. It may be awhile before we see a fix though.

Right now its quite nice. Fullscreen mode second monitor is visible, when i click on the other monitor the game doesnt minimize and it keeps playing :)

Yes, I'd love that for many games. But not for one that needs to scroll all the time. Imagine it on starcraft.... that would be a mess. Same with civ5, but since its turn based you don't screw up so much.

On an rpg for example I'd love it.

I also use ATI, it is incredibly annoying disabling the monitor so that I can use the mouse to scroll.

Not to mention the fact that the damn mini map can only take 1 click to view that area. In Civ4 you could click on the mini map and drag it around to easily move the map around. Having to click, click, click, click, click on the Civ V mini-map to move around is a joke.

I also use a program called ultramon. Its a nice program for multimonitor users. It gives a second taskbar and can set lots of hotkey. One of those is "lock mouse on current screen" and voila, no mouse scrolling problems! (but in civ games im used to arrow scrolling already, so it doesnt matter :P).

nothing wrong with one monitor, but two is at least twice as good (thats just basic math). it really would be nice to have the option of having an alternate view on the 2nd monitor, either of a zoomed out worldmap, or the various information pages. heck, even just being able to have the civilopedia open over there would be very usefull.

Exactly! Of course it isn't a deal breaker, but it always disappoints me when a game doesn't take advantage of my extra monitor. In Civ I mainly use the extra monitor to check real world stuff at a glance while playing. I would love to be able to grab a map or a report or have all the popups show up on the extra monitor. Oh well.

Thanks Sphinx, I use the program too and this didn't even occur to me (I only use it for the separate wall papers :P).

On an unrelated note. Does anyone else eyes hurt after playing Civ V? I only played for 40 minutes and my eyes were straining, I could play Civ 4 and most other games indefinitely.

I use a Dell UltraSharp u2410 at 1920 x 1200 and it looks pretty, so pretty my eyes want to bleed.

... I have a bug with Civ5. The horizontial map scroll with three monitors does not work. the mouse just exits the map area onto the desktop in full screen mode. I am looking through the ini's for a setting hopefully. However 2k asked for the dxdiags for 32 and 64 bit. So, I am assuming it is supposed to work and just isn't.

I have a similar issue with my dual screen setup. When moving my mouse towards the screen edge where my second monitor resides, the mouse just moves to the 2nd screen rather than map scroll within the game.

Hi,

Im using Eyefinity on three 24" displays (tried 6032 x 1080 & 5760 x 1080). Everything works fine except the Videos (Intro & the animated LeaderScreen). Those are just black without any pictures, but i can here everything...

When im playing on Windowed Mode @1920x1080 the videos works fine...

Is there a Fix for the black Videos?

For the whole scrolling issue, just use your LMB to scroll. Click and hold and move the mouse to scroll. Much easier...

Thanks

I'm curious why multi-monitor support people are surprised when the mouse scrolls to the second monitor. It's what I would expect too happen, otherwise what's the point of the second monitor if you can't use it.

If you play other games that work with the mouse staying in the one monitor, how do you get to the second monitor to do anything?

It would be nice if you could designate a hot-key to lock the mouse into one window for scrolls (and use same hot key to unlock it)

Because it is meant to, when I want the mouse to go across to the other monitor, I play the game in Window Mode. However in Full Screen mode, in all but very old games the mouse is locked to the monitor the game is running on.

I have a three monitor eyefinity setup as well. The game works great, except for the leaderheads. At first they were just black, but I could hear the leaders. I figured out that there is a file named GraphicsSettingsDX11.ini file that I can alter to fix this somewhat. In that file, there is a setting labeled AllowLeaderAA. The readme file explains that sometime fraps (which I think is the video software) doesn't work right on some configurations, and says to disable it. I set the setting from 1 to 0 and it seems the leaderheads show up now. Unfortunately, because of the ultra-wide screen, it now cuts off the tops of their heads. I'm still trying to figure out how to fix that part.

I've also tried the game in windowed mode. Works nicely that way. I can surf the web or read the manual that way. Scrolling is somewhat of a problem, though I've found you can scroll the world view window easily by holding down the left mouse button and dragging.

I'm currently using the triplehead2go with 3x 22" monitors which gives me a screen resoluton of 5040x1050.

I can start the game and while in-game set the video resolution to 5040x 1050 and then lanch a game. i can see the loading screen and have the usual shortcuts in the corners for units and advisors but the map won't show up. It is just black. I can scroll around it but I get weird artifacts from the unit markers. So to sum up it doesn't work.

I play FPS's such as BC:BF2 and L4D2 and also strategy games like Civ 4, Elemental: WoM, and AI Wars on 3 screens and it works well. Civ 5 is the only one that looks like it could support it but doesn't.

I'm running the latest drivers on my GeForce 295 and running Vista x64 and launch the game through Steam.

I can play on my 24" but it would be nice to have the game on the multi-screens.

BTW Widescreen Gaming Forum is an awesome site for multimonitor info. http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/

I started a thread for this specific problem the other day. Myself and a friend also run Triplehead2go boxes with three monitors (at 3840x1024) and we get exactly the same problem, except the map area is grey and some of it displays, but not enough to be playable. The scrolling issue wouldn't bother me at all (I just left click and move the mouse), but this is weird. We both play driving sims and flight sims mainly, along with other games, for example Just Cause 2, Oblivion, Arma 2 etc. All of those are absolutely fine; we've never seen this issue with any other game or application. Given that it's not a niggle, it renders the game unplayable, I think it should definitely be considered for the next patch.

Currently I'm just playing in 1280x1024 windowed mode (fullscreen displays in the left monitor, and I can't seem to be able to configure the T2Go to put the game in the central monitor).

Did a search, but no discussions I could find since the patch.

Two issues are rendering Civilization V unplayable with Eyefinity (three 1920x1200 displays):

1) FOV appears to be off, as the outside monitors are extremely fish-eyed.

2) HUD is sticking to the far corners of the display rather than the center monitor, making it an extreme hassle to drag the mouse all the way from the top left corner of the left monitor to the bottom right corner of the right monitor.

Ideas?

Would make my X-mas since I can't get out to visit family due to work. :)
