Multiplayer OOS with Random Events

http://www.gamefront.com/files/21983502/gand.rar

Pretty much unpack and play, nothing else.

Just played yesterday 3 hours with my wife, no oos.

I'm trying now with Deity (with AI autoplay to make it quick)... the game gets insanely slow
Turn 210, year 400BC and AI is researching Steam Power. And on my pc I need 2 minutes per turn
AND2 looks definetly faster even in modern era (which starts around year 1900AD at least in my rebalanced version, not around 200AD as in AND 1.74 or 1.75).

Okay sounds good. I'm going to train my self to see if i can improve on something. Take your time I'll be playing the SVN version, hopefully it's the same version you currently use. The thread here had a great tutorial. If and when you certain you'll have some free time then contact here skype or email. I'll add your andreblancing files for a challenge. :goodjob:

good to know that v2 is mp-playable, i might port my changes into that, since i wouldn't mind speed improvement (though speed vs stability, stable is a clear win). Where do you keep your custom changes, what source control if any?

ps: i married the 1st girl i met who enjoyed fallout/civilization games:) And i also have exact same problem with wife-wars, they are just not allowed... need people i don't love as much, so that i would not have qualms destroying them:)

 You are one lucky man to find someone in NY of all places, a women with a taste for videogames, of the RPG and Stratagy games, lucky men. The closest I had was a girlfriend into borderlands and other FPS back in LA. :crazyeye:

Other speeds, difficuly levels, map sizes and options haven't been tested yet and I've left them as in original AND ver2 beta. Hopefully, once I'm sure that this kind of setting works, I'll rebalance every other option to make the game more challenging (with more advanced difficulty levels) and more balanced with other settings.

I know that it's necessary to sign up (free) on 4shared but right now I had some problems on filefactory and other file sharing website due to the size of the rar (almost 900MB). All 5 parts are needed, just unrar inside Beyond the Sword\Mod folder. :)
Enjoy!

Edit: one more thing, before you start the game for the first time, it's necessary to clear the cache, which can be done by deleting files inside the folder

C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\My Games\Beyond the Sword\cache (at least that's the location on Win7 - and Vista, I suppose)

i think i've asked this before in another thread (we have 3 of them going...) Do you keep your files somewhere visible ie source control? I just finished balancing religion stuff, wonders and promotions (it makes no sense that some religions have wonders that never obsolete while others do etc)

i will try v2 of rand. 2mins per turns is pretty goodwith humans taking 15-30 mins to finish their turns in modern era.

I've uploaded the last AND2 beta version (rev 570) on filefactory also (it doesn't require a log in), if someone wants to try it without having to install SVN. There are 5 parts to download:

This is my own version which is exactly the original one + a couple of xml rebalanced by myself (the rar also contains the original files if someone wants to revert back to the original version). XML which have been rebalanced are located in \Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn\Assets\XML\GameInfo folder. I have reworked Civ4CivicInfos (so that AI is using every civic and that Corporations are more "balanced"), Civ4EraInfos (reworked so that AI researches techs at the right time - according to our real history --> this only works with Normal gamespeed at the moment, but will balance it for every other gamespeed hopefully in the near future), Civ4GamespeedInfo (only reworked normal gamespeed, it works flawlessy now), Civ4HandicapInfo (only reworked Noble level, it works flawlessy now, but I'll do some more test just to be sure it works with other gamespeeds / map sizes).

gdambrauskas: no, I haven't uploaded my files anywhere exepct in this version or here:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/76sj4luhmf5h/n/ANDRebalancing.rar

I've never had any problem with religions/promotions/wonders and I suppose that some problems existing in 1.74H were already solved in 1.75C and AND2 beta.

Edit: just to make sure everything works and that there are no conflicts with previously installed versions of RoM-AND, delete the cache folder [C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\My Games\Beyond the Sword\cache (at least that's the location on Win7 - and Vista, I suppose) ] and even better start a game with "Play now" which should reset every option in BTS. Then just quit the game and restart a custom game to play as you wish.

just an fyi, i use gamefront (didn't see limit in faq on file size)

http://www.gamefront.com/file-hosting-faq/

downloaders do not need to login, plus you might be able to upload all file. And i assume you do "best compression + solid archive" when rarring file... My whole rand squeezes into ~500mb sized file.

Well, gamefront doesn't accept files that big (around 900MB); of course I use "best compression + solid archive" and that's the result. AND2 unrarred is about 1.7 GB while AND 1.74H is about 1.2GB if I'm not mistaken. Anyway Filefactory doesn't need registration to download files. 4shared is faster but needs registration (free).

was looking into merging v2 game speed optimizations only back to 1.74, but it seems less work intensive to merge my changes into v2 (i wanted to skip features i do not care about such as max compat save code).
ping me through email or civfanatics when you have weekends free to play. I've been practicing with my wife, 'combined family arms':)

Just fyi: many things have changed from 1.74H to AND2, so I suggest you try the basic and2 version before merging your changes or you could have unexpected results. :)
As soon as I have some free time on weekends, I'll surely let you know ;)

yeah, i already looked, there were a bunch of things i dislike a (no warlord units, sulphur removed). Started to think that maybe merging back to 174 would be best after all.

Yeah, I know sulphure isn't there but I frankly don't miss it. Nor I miss other features of previous versions. I suppose it's a matter of habit; when I started playing with ver2 recently after many games with version 1.75C I was a bit "suspicious" towards this new version. But after some games, now I think AND2 is definetly better (and I strongly opposed AND2 until recently, so it was good enough to make me change my mind). :)

my wife is pretty adamant about sulphur/warlord units being a big miss. I didn't follow the original reasoning for removal of these features, but i have a lot of fun in the games sending a warlord to camp/destroy sulphur. It might make a bit more fair for AI(as well as for someone not having sulphur) which does not do any tricks, but since we are playing on diety AI is compensated more than enough in all areas. I approve of removal of same stats/different skin units, but i think it would have been more fun to modify different skin units and make them unique. I will find some time to get realism invictus type of strength (they have defense/attack as 2 different stats) change in. On top of that i still find lots of people reporting bugs for v2.

Anyway i am half thru the merge(all the c2c specific code is marked as optional).

I think some features were removed because AI wasn't able to use them properly. As for units I suppose it's connected to some graphical bug; it seems that graphic details of cities were also at least partially removed from AND2 because this was causing CTD when changing view quickly from one point to another of the globe or when zooming out. I surely prefer a more stable game without CTDs than all the graphic details or different units. The more complex the game is, the easier it will CTD. That's another reason why I prefer AND2 to C2C: although in C2C CTDs are usually dealt with quick enough by the team working on it, what will happen when the team will get tired of upgrading C2C? I hope they won't leave the game unfinished at least solving every CTD bug. That will be enough for me, even if some feature will be missing. The same goes for AND2: it's perfectly playable right now and most of the bug reports I've seen weren't real bugs of AND2 (such as the "Divine Prophets" bug, for example).

so i've merged all of my xml changes into v2, played ~80 turns with no problems and then oos every 3-5 turns... I play multiplayer with random events/revolutions/lots of barbs and simultaneous turns. Compared to version 1.74 where I played in modern ages for several hours without oos, this is quite unplayable. I am not sure how to debug oos stuff, i am ok with crashes where i can fire up the debugger and catch the crashing line right on. It seems that whatever optimizations made its way from c2c into AND also affected it's stability (or it could be original v2 afforess code, possible originating from v1.75).
OOS log is just a huge printout of what each player owns.

Hi there !

First, let me say i'm very glad to hear people are still around, developing and stabilizing this awesome mod ! I really like it, and would like to play it successfully with my friends without going OOS.

Just tried the last version you posted (and 1.75C too), but it desync almost immediatly.

We removed almost everything (IA, barbs, random events, tribal villages, revolutions) and it desynced again at turn 13

What does log file says ? Desync on first random values :

Mine :
Next Map Rand Value: 4549
Next Soren Rand Value: 644

The one of my friend :
Next Map Rand Value: 1216
Next Soren Rand Value: 5634

His file is very short, nothing after the line "Bonus Info:", mine has 7k lines after this line.

Any clue on what may cause this ? Different game version ? We tested both perfectmoongoose map script and a few others.

AND 1.75 is not under development anymore, so I suggest you stick to AND2. I can tell you that I've finished different games with AND2 and 1.75c without too many OOS and none of them was unsolvable or happened so early. I suggest both of you download the same version of the game and both MUST clear the cache before playing or you will surely have OOS.
