Um.... Multiplayer question.

I'm trying to play online with someone, but none of the options (serial, modem, etc.) seem to be working.

Anyone know how I should go about this? We both have cable modems, know each other's IP address. When I go to the last two options (dealing with IP's) it will let me set up a game, but then he can't find it (says "no game found"). When I go to "modem" it takes me to this weird menu that doesn't let me do anything.
