Incredible !!. Does anyone else think that, the intro music is very good, and then most ingame music is great, especially the baroque with bach, renassaince with dvorak and beethoven. I am great classical music nut, so this addition to music is wonderful, there are so many new tracks, and when Im in the middle of a piece i particualiry like, I dont want to attack or anythin, just want to sit and listen to it

Additionally, I think some of the diplo music is good as well. Flamenco when you're interacting with Isabella, US Marine Corp Hymn when you've got FDR (I actually think the American music my switch part way through - it seemed kinda Yankee Doodle-ish in the earlier parts of the game but I may be misremembering), and some Mussorgsky when you have a Russian leader. The Chinese and Japanese music didn't impress me but at least each Civ has its own music. I'm only on my 2nd game so there's still more to discover.

Same here I really like classical music and the music is really great in civ4. I remember when I was excited about CIV3 when they talked about music that would change over the time but the music was very disapointing to say the least.. Now in CIV4 they actually have this and the music simply rock. And I almost cried of happiness when I got to the medival age and zooming down to one of my english cities actually played rule brittania or the other british national song.. Simply awesome.

And meeting Napoleon the list goes on.

But one sound I dont like is the alarm going off when I played 4 hours.. :)

Aside from the graphics, I'd say the music is the largest improvement that has been made to Civ 4 over Civ 3. Quite frankly, the music in Civ 3 was downright terrible...repetitive and hardly appealing to the ear.

They've done the right thing in taking authentic pieces and mixing them with some original compositions. The title theme is impressive, and it's nice to hear the new Medieval and Renaissance pieces.

Not only this, but allowing us to point to a custom music folder? Spectacular.

Washington's theme "Washington's Artillery Retreat" is like that.

I start up the game and crank up the speakers and just let the main menu tribal music just flood the house :)

Btw, anyone know what they are saying? I would be a little disturbed if they were incantations to some demon god or something.

Agree about the title music - lovely theme.

A lot of the in-game music is nice, but some of it sounds like elevator music. Also, the music should change dramatically when you declare war on another civ or start bombarding their cities - this was done very well in Rise of Nations. Music in that game was absolutely top notch.

Yeah that opening music is great. Most of the rest is really good too. I also wonder what they are saying in the intro music tho hehe...

Best of all, the music is in formats that one can listen to with no conversion at all.

Firaxis is a very generous bunch.

I have to agree wholeheartedly. I have several songs on my MP3 player. My wife is looking at me kind of funny.

The credits theme is awesome. It's actually John Adams' opera "Nixon In China", and the song is supposed to be the Chinese People's Liberation Army singing the praises of The Three Main Rules of Discipline and the Eight Points of Attention. Sweet.

The Ancient songs are cool. One has the first minute starting with disorganized clapping, slowly building into a rhythm and then evolving into music. Awesome.

One of the modern songs (MeisterEckhart?) is pretty awesome as well.

Does anyone know who performs the opening theme song? I'd be curious to try to find more music by that choral group. I can't decipher the lyrics so the internet isn't much help.

Anyone know where I can find a list of the tracks, the song titles, meanings, and in the classical music case, the composer names?

Its all in the Civ 4 files under Assets/Sounds/Soundtrack

Yeah, I found them, thanks, and I like listening to them, but the file titles don't explain much. "OpeningMenu" or "AncientMusic2" ... none of the classical music MP3 files say which composer they're inspired from. I'm very curious about the classical music in Civ IV as well as the menu music.

LOVE IT!

I expeacially like how it depends on your zoom amount... And the music dies out to wind as you zoom up for a atmospheric view:D

That is just insane!

I like how each nation get's it's own music that plays during the diplo screen, or, if you zoom into their city (with the territory revealed) it'll play too.

Lot's of life.

I personally like the Medieval era the best strangely enough. I'm not really religious but that music hit me hard when I first heard it, I actually froze and just kinda glanced around my empire - it was even more 'dramatic' because I had just founded christianity (this was the first game I played btw) and I thought it was due to that.

I was thoroughly impressed.

Civ4 definitely has a great soundtrack. I personally like the menu theme and one of the modern tracks (The People are the Heroes Now), but almost all tracks are well chosen and fit in perfectly. I agree with King Jason 100% - the medieval music is indeed truly epic.
