music

I actually like the music in certain eras. The modern era music drives me insane...

"The people. Are. The heroes now. The people. Aaaaare the heroes. Now..."

The ancient era, when you have the tribal music is cool. I can groove to that.
Ancient has no music. Classical has the tribal music. One of them is from [civ3], the relaxing one. My least favorite is The people are the.... Second least favorite is in Middle Ages.
"Yheeeeee dee dee um. Whenswado yumdumdooooo. aaa-looo-wheedum-de-fuesum-beedle-gunfaa. gunfaaaaaaaaaa. ahedumdedumwhedumdeedumseedumdedumdumdum.":p :badcomp::cry:

What, you don't like the Medieval music? Miserere is one of the greatest pieces of human history! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miserere_%28Allegri%29

No, if I have any complaints about the music, it's that it's too Eurocentric and classical. They should add some jazz in the modern times, and international music throughout.

If someone made a new Civ 4 Mod, please change the music in the game to something very unique for that civilization. For example, if i'm playing Arabian civ, give us some Arabian music from all the eras. If I'm playing Japanese civ, I want to hear Japanese songs from all the freakin eras. Matter in fact, give me a freakin little thing that can change the music of the original game.

so easy: get some civ-specific music, put everything in it's specific folder and: choose the folder in the options-menue for the civ you play.

Silly question time. I can't get the game to recognize any of my music folders. Is it because my stuff is in .wma format?
it has to be in .mp3 :)

I like your style. :goodjob:

I never listen to the music. I usually have the TV on when I'm playing, so I'll be playing Civ and watching TV.

@puglover
thanks :D

I can't hear the music because when I'm playing, my wife is busy yelling at me to stop playing.

Just kidding. I usually listen to the ingame music, but if it gets boring, I'll just silence the music. Must concentrate on the game!

I think the developers included the Modern Age music so that players would be more likely to press the big red button and nuke everyone else to hell in a vain attempt to turn off the invisible speakers.

I've found the modern age music to be rather bad in both civ3 & 4. (Remember that awful LA jazz?) Also not fond of the medieval music - the one that's a big old church choir. While, yes, it does match some medieval music, it matches medieval Christian music, and there's already enough judeo-christocentrism in the game.

0d1n3oo3Broad - thanks for the format tip. Now, it's time to see about doing some reformatting...

I build and conquer to a well balanced variety from Metallica, Bach, Black Sabbath, Strauss and Nickelback.

I listened to Eva Cassidy once but got trashed, by Hatty I think it was. Bad choice!

I just have a random assortment of mp3s. Flaming Lips, Clash, Grateful Dead, Phish, Doc Watson, a bunch more. I need to add more to the folder though.

I changed the menu song to Let it Grow by the Grateful Dead from 5/16/81. Great version, and very appropriate lyrical content ;).

Completely agree with Judge Dee. When I first listened to "Chairman dances", I nearly felt off the chair, and is still a great them to me. But the other pieces are not really nice, some are even horrible.
The medieval music is very sincere, but often brings depression (except for the music by "Praetorius").
I would like to listen to Arab, Celtic, Chinese, Peruvian and African themes. And for modern time, jazz and some theme by Vangelis.

The blood chills in my veins at the pure horror of that idea. :ack:

If you don't want to change the 'Options / Audio' setings, just copy your favourite tunes in .mp3 format into the respective 'Soundtrack' folders.

I go from Donovan in the start and the move to Janis, throw in some early Dead..Then when they all piss me off, I move to a Zappa ( It puts a bit of lining on your cloud) until they attack. Time to move to Primus until the war really starts. Blood will fly; DK will be involed, after that I usually (not always) am feeling good so spin tha 40 of freedom. Rejoice in the music which felt the best!

Great music :D

I LOOOOOVVVVEEE the Ancient era music. The thundering rainstorm, the jungle drums, the native callings, man I can listen to that stuff all day! Unfortunately there are only four tracks. The middle ages / renaissance / industrial music is pretty good.

The modern music is alright, but I couldn't listen to it all day. I do like Chairmandances and (dare I say it) People are the Heroes. Don't everyone allstone me at once. I substitute names and stuff. Like "The [plaural last name of people I don't like] are the morons..." stuff like that.

I do think the CivIII modern music was way cooler, especially ModernFull.mp3 which cameout with the - Play The World was it? Or was it Conquests? Anyway that was one that I looped all day whenever I studied for exams.

But the Civ4 modern music more or less all sounds the same. It's all high notes up and down. It IS good, but too long and not enough variety.
