Okay, before I begin, this is the first time this has ever happened on my current computer (which is only about a year old). I'm using XP.
So, I turn on the computer when I get home from school, it seems normal, until it tries to run the programs that run at startup. It was so slow, that I went to the bathroom, took a shower, and came back it it and it had only been able to start up one of the taskbar (startup) programs.
I was getting mad at this point. I shut down the computer the way no computer likes, directly through the power strip. I turned it back on, it's still doing its lagging thing where it begins one startup program every 20 minutes, and 10 minutes for the computer to respond to a mouse click. Control-alt-delete was not working, so I kind of had my momentary breakdown, and decided to rough up the computer a little. I shook the modem because it has also been giving me problems lately, and I smashed my fist down on the keyboard.
So, after about 6 more of these restarts and the same thing happening, the 7th time, I decide that when the desktop first shows, I'm going to hit ctrl-alt-delete really fast to see if something happens. It did, and it turns out the whole problem was that IEXPLORER.EXE was using about 99% of the cpu at the time (I checked the processes tab in the task manager). I exited whatever that was even though the computer popped out a warning that it can be dangerous to close it, and everything went along normally. And now I'm here typing this message. Another wierd thing, IEXPLORER.EXE is running once again, even though I haven't restarted the computer since I got it to start up properly.
What is IEXPLORER.EXE and why is it using 99% of my cpu, when it normally doesn't?
