I'm the owner of a laptop, an Acer Aspire 1524WLMi
It's specs are:
Athlon XP64 3400+
512Mb DDR RAM
nVidia GeForce FX Go5700 64Mb shared memory

so i started playing Civ4, first i encountered all problems over player hads, it was slow, with freeze which make me reboot lot of time on a small map, on a huge map, it was almost impossible to play, it took almost 10 minutes between each turn before the computer finish his turn. And I saw this patch ! The v1.09 I tried it and started a new party, and here, big crash, everything freeze. Damn, it"s crap, I reboot my laptop and what i see ? bigs glitchs, the bios don't show anymore, windows don't boot or end on a blue screen. as i can't reach the bios anymore, or reset anything. my laptop is dead. yeah cool, fiew i've a waranty, i send my comp back to Acer to get a new one.

But... if i wouldn't have this warranty ? it would be a 1200€'s bugs... wow ! maybe the most expensive I never saw ! ( for a game )
So if my computer would be really dead with no waranty ? who i could blame for this ?

My message here is that 2kgames don't beta-tested his game enough, maybe other people got the same problem and can't say it on this forum ( as they have no more PC to do it xD ) cause they don't saw this big bug. now i will wait, since I can see a final big patch that will correct all those bugs, and I hope that 2kgames will test a little more his softs in the future to avoid this kind of problem.

Oh yeah, for those who think I was doing something wrong, when I played Civ4, it was on a fresh Windows XP SP2 Installation, with all Windows Updates, the original drivers from the manufacturer and the updated ones. There were only 2 softs in background, only my antivirus, avast and MSN.
All the other games I played was running smooth with no glitchs, so why this one ?

( Sorry for my bad english ;) )

When you were playing Civ 4, was your computer acting oddly in any way. In particular, could you hear the hard drive swapping a lot? A few other people have complained of this, and it's one of the few conceivable ways a piece of software could damage a computer.

Are you getting anything on screen at all when you start your laptop up or is it completely dead? If it's the latter then physical damage seems to be the most likely cause, but it is truly bizarre if Civ 4 caused that. It might be worth having a look through the tech support forum, since I vaguely recall someone else saying that Civ had "fried" their computer. I think most people dismissed it as impossible at the time, but it's just possible they were correct. If so Take2 have got a REALLY major problem on their hands.

I hope you don't have trouble getting a new computer, it's a good thing you were still within your warranty.

Tell Civ4 to piss-off by editing the INI file.

Change it to a 1.

after witing 4 the patch i thought it would like work!
at first its ok then just hangs, hardrive churns endlessly till the crash, moniter goes like the screens flexing muscle.
i sit by paitently watching 2 c if itll all die.press restart.on different times my vidio cards no longer installed so i reinstall my nvidia drivers.then like a stupid junky i hangout till i can dammage my p4 [2.4 512ram ti4200 old yet all running smoothly] mashine again.
its just plain rude like wen battlefield2 kumz out the demo etc says loud + clear wat its speckz are i know it wont work, the demo kumz out 1st
i try it .no good. better not buy game.

no, the hard drive was working fine, and I could start windows 1 or 2 times using F8 at boot and switching to VGA Mode ( but the screen was really odd, with some glitch like some blue vertical bars on the screen ) but after that 2 boot ( that I used to backup all my data on my extern hard drive ), windows don't boot anymore, when i try to start windows, i finish with a BSOD ( black screen og death ) or some times, with a BFESOD ( very blue fatal error screen of death ;) ) and the laptop restart, retry to start windows, and again, bam. there was no probs with other games, I played age of empires 3 and GTA san andreas just before, and there was no probs and no glitchs, it's when i started playing with this new patch, I got a new bug under the game ( like if 1 texture on 2 goes black, some weird things on models ) and the laptop freezed, i tried all keys, ctrl+alt+suppr, alt+f4, etc... but nothing, i pushed the power button 1 time, no response, so I hard stopped my computer by hanging 5 seconds on the power button, and it was done, everything was screwed :/

I think it can come from 2 points:
1. First, 2kgames used a bad graphic lib, which did something wrong and screwed the graphic card
2. The fact that Acer never updated the nVidia drivers for my laptop, I was still using 61.62, it's kinda old ;) but even if we are using old drivers, i don't think that the whole computer can be fried like that :/

i hope 2kgames will pay attention to this post, and find what's going on, as I want to play civ4 :)
