I just got Civ III friday and I have a few comments...

First, my experience with civ I and civ II is almost completely irrelevant. This is a hwole new game.

Second, the game is ahelluvalot harder...

I used to routinely beat Civ II at diety level, now I have started trying at regent level and I can't get anywhere!! But I am conquering culturally and scientifically at warlord.

I love the 16 player option. The game I playing at warlord is Huge. I may not have the largest civ, but they love me. 94% approval rating! I have the culture at 22000 or so and its only 1500.

I love the trading of gold per turn. There is nothing better than getting a new advance and turning it into 300 gold per turn for 20 turns.

That being said, I have a fast machine, and the game is taking forever. I'll post another thread about that though.

I also hate you cannot irrigate off of the ocean... thats a bit weird.

Also found a bug: some of my workers from time to time will be listed as "ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ workers"

whats that about...

About irrigating the ocean,

Try watering a plant with salted water for a few days and you should realize why the game doesn't let you irrigate from the ocean.

I think you can irrigate more freely after the discovery of electricity. Until then, you gotta find those rivers. :)

Oh yeah I found the game to be much harder than the Civ 2 also. Luckily, I'm getting the hang of things now so that's cool.

Actually, the ocean thing makes sense. You can't irrigate with salt water. You'll destroy the soil. (Some conquering armies actually salted the soil on purpose for this reason).

I've also seen the wierd y worker bug. It doesn't seem to effect anything tho'.
