I bought the game like ages ago but never came to playing until a month ago, and I really love it. It is one of the best, if not the best ever, strategy games I ever played. There are 2 points of annoyance though:

- It would be much easier if one could move more then one unit simultaneously. Now you have to give each unit a separate command. Luckily they put "wake all" and "fortify all" options in the latest patch. If you are at war with another civ, it comes pretty boring to keep moving these units around time after time.

- As the game comes to and end, the "please wait" periods become longer and longer. But this maybe is unavoidable, but still annoying :P

I' m looking forward to the expansion, maybe one of these 2 things will be improved :)

You can't do anything about slowdown in the endgame except to turn off the unit animations and autosave, but you can move more than one unit at a time. Just use the "J" key, which activates stacked movement. Hopefully that will speed up your games considerably! :)

The only other way you can substantially reduce turn waiting times is to play on a smaller map or a map with a smaller land mass. This equals fewer AI cities and units, and therefore *much* quicker turn times. I have a PII350 with 128 RAM, and I can play with 8 civs on a standard map with no problem. Prior to this, I played 8+ civs on huge and the turn wait was as much as half a dozen times longer in the modern age. Try 8 civs on standard, it should be much better.

Or, buy a 2Ghz 512 MB monster, whichever is easier

Thanx for the "stacked movement" tip!!! I didn't know that, it'll speed up my game considerably :)

I'll try playing with 8 civs, until now i've played with 15 on a huge map. I have a PIII550 with 384 MB.

Thnx for the help ! :)

Well, I've never played with a computer quicker than my own, but 15 on huge is asking for trouble! ;)

On a PII350 I bet it is!! Sounds like a good excuse to get a new computer. ;)
I have a Athlon 1.2GHz with 512MB of RAM. Performance is not an issue. :p

The size of the map is the more important factor due to the pathfinding algorithm. Pathfinding is one of those functions that increases exponentially with distance. Combined with the larger number of units on a huge map and you will need to crunch a lot of numbers.
