My friend just emailed me that she has bought a used copy of Civnet. She says the manual is HUGE.

Questions:

1- Is this essentially the same manual that came with Civ1?

2- In order to play with her over the internet do I need to buy my own used copy of Civnet?

3- How do we play over the internet? Can we just connect to each other via the game?

4- Is the game full of bugs? If so, are their patches?

I've heard that some of my friends effectively had problems connecting to MP. But they couldn't solve that problem. Sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't.

Concernin the manual, I think I have it on my HL server. Unless you already got it ;) But well, the net version is the same as the classic one, so i don't think you badly need it.

So let's say I have an internet cable server (@home.com) and my friend has another internet cable server, we can play each other? Just by using the game CD that tells us how?

There is no "Zone" or any special provider?

This will be great if it is true!

When you play, how do you contact others and hook up a game with them? Even with people you don't know?

If i'm not wrong, you need the opponent's IP address though and that might be sufficient for a connection. Now how to find players who are:
_ still playing Civnet
_ willing to play you

I suppose a quick google search would lead you to fan site or fan channel where you can find such people. After all, I could play the old Diablo 1 because many players still play it so I think Civnet should have also its fans :)
