My game ALWAYS starts on with a Duel map and no other players

When ever i start a game, no matter if its single player customer, the play now! or multiplayer game with AI, i am always placed on the same map duel sized with no other opponents. I can pick huge, continents 18 players and it brings me to duel size with no opponents. In the config file it still lists all the correct settings.

I have uninstalled, restarted, deleted every single file/registry entry left i could find of civ4, restarted AGAIN, then installed it and i am getting the same exact problem.

This all started after i played a direct IP game with a friend. It worked fine before then.

Did you check your My Games directory in your My Documents folder? There maybe some hidden information inside of there that is still causing you problems.

I have had the same problem -- was playing standard sized maps with 8 players then had a crash to desktop. Since then, Civ will only generate duel-sized maps no matter which options I select.

I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the program but the same error keeps cropping up. Maddening.

I have an older system which (barely) meets recommended reqs in all but graphics card (which meets minimum):

Athlon XP 2000 (1.7 Ghz)
NVidia GeForce 4MX 440
XP Home
768 MB
DirectX 9.c
virtual memory 1500 MB min
rolled back the 81.85 driver to the April 2005 driver
deleted 'cache' folder

Any advice out there?

Yep, deleted all the folders in the My Games directory.. deleted every single thing i could find, and went through the registry with a fine tooth comb.. and nothing.
