My game won't save! :/

Hey guys, I've been playing for a few hours to Civ 6 (btw great game) but Civ 6 just won't save my settings and just won't save my game. I have been trying to "verify integrity of game cache", of relaunching the game a few times and waiting for patches solving this issue.
Unfortunately nothing works, and each time I play a game of Civ 6, it just won't save.

Please tell me if you know how to fix this major problem, as I am currently not able to play Civ 6 properly :(

Also note that my computer works perfectly well and is capable of running other, more powerful games. Meng.png

When you say the game "won't save", what do you mean? Yes, the game does not save your game setup options between games (you have to reset your favorite game options every time you start a new game), but you should be able to save an existing game and then reopen that save and keep playing that game.

When you are in a game, if you pull town the game menu at the top right corner of the screen, Save Game should be the third menu item, and Load Game should be the fourth menu item (the menu order should be Return to Game, Quick Save Game, Save Game, Load Game, Options, Retire, etc.). Do you not have "Save Game" as an option? Or you do have that option, but when you try to save a game, nothing happens?

Heyn thanks for answering :)

Actually, the option for saving does appear but when I press the button, it doesn't do anything at all.

So, when you navigate to your single-player saves folder (usually a path like D:\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Saves\Single), there's nothing there? If you click on Load Game, the load game window pops up, but there are no save games to load?

If you were to manually copy a save file (say, one downloaded from a Bug Reports forum post, just for convenience sake) to your saves folder, and tried to load that save, what happens?

Well I don't have the "Single" folder in my Civ 6, in Saves there's only benchmark and demo.

Since I don't have that folder, I guess I can't even copy the BugReports save

You are looking in entirely the wrong place. You are deep into the game Assets folders (buried underneath the Steam/steamapps/Common path). That is not where your game saves are kept. Go to MyGames, or MyDocuments and look underneath those folders for a Sid Meier's Civilization VI folder. That folder should contain a bunch of .ini files and a half-dozen or so folders, including Cache, Logs, Mods, Saves, and Screenshots. That saves folder should contain two subfolders -- Single and Hotseat.

I hate to say this, because I'm probably wrong, but I don't seem to see any folder named like that in my PC. :/

I am having exactly the same problem. also on Win10 and running a digital version off Steam. tried running as an admin using the line "runas.exe/user:administrator" as a launch option for the game in steam. but alas... still no saving.

Where is your default save location (for documents and the like) in Windows 10? OneDrive? If so, I've no idea how the game deals with OneDrive cloud saves.

EDIT: I did find this article on how to change your Win 10 default save location, but I don't use Win 10, so perhaps others can weigh in.

From another source: the save locations for different OSs (note it's different for Steam)
System

Location

Windows

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Saves\

macOS (OS X)

~/Documents/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/Saves/

Linux

$XDG_DATA_HOME/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/Saves/

Steam

<Steam-folder>/userdata/<user-id>/8930/

this folder described for Steam does not exist on my drive (userdata/user-id is there, but no 8930)

I checked with my ONe Drive and I don't think it's really the issue.
Bryansympathetic, I also don't have the 8930 folder, nor have I the MyGames folder.
This is quite weird.

Hi gents,

I was having the exact same issue, and realized that I failed to tell BitDefender (my antivirus program) to view Civ VI.exe as a "trusted program." I did so, rebooted the computer, and am saving games with no issue now.

I hope that helps.

Dude, thank you very much, the problem was indeed that new **** antivirus Bitdefender that I had barely installed.

OK created the exception... load times are much better. but it is still saving absolutely nothing (settings or save games) to the drive!

Glad it helped one of you. That is weird, Bryansympathetic. My Windows 10 computer uses OneDrive, and the default save location was "C:\Users\[user id]\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Saves\Single", inside which is an autosave folder as well as my manual saves since rebuking Bitdefender. Consequently, it seems to work fine with OneDrive.

I am having the same problem with games not saving. I am using Windows 10 just with the built in antivirus (not Bit Defender as others have mentioned). Nothing unusual about my computer.

Developers, did you not test the game on Windows 10 before releasing?! 4+ hours of game play and we cannot save games! Uhhh minor detail. Nice work.

Just for anyone else who stumbles on this, I'm running Win10 and my save location is C:\Users\(your account)\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Saves. One level up from Saves is where the Mods, Logs etc are stored.
