I figured I would writeup/link writeups for my HOF games, since apparently it is useful for everyone. A bunch of them are written up in gauntlet threads, so I'll just link those. Most of them aren't all that interesting - I tended to finish last in gauntlets ;)

My first game was the Feb 2006 Small Deity SS game. In fact, I had never beaten deity before this gauntlet.

Here is a link to the writeup:

This is a link to the thread for that gauntlet, which went 5 pages :)

This was actually a game I played before I played the SS game - I had read the guides to 20K and wanted to play - 20K has, as you might see, become quite the obsession with me.

Sedentary barbs, Pangea, 70%, 4B, Normal, Temperate.

Played against France, India, Korea and Ottomans - I'm pretty sure I picked random opponents for the game.

I really enjoyed this game - funny thing is, I don't think I would play it through now.

I didn't found until 3850 - yes, 3 moves!!

This game is testament to how important an EARLY SGL is. I had a decent 20K location, though not great - cow and deer, could make nearly 100 shields with rails... and I got 7 - count 'em SEVEN sgl's in the game (which is the most I think I have ever gotten)

But the first wasn't until 690 BC, which makes it hard.

It also shows how important war is - I never got heroic epic and I didn't go to war until much later (this was back when I didn't understand how the AI works)

It's funny, looking back on this game.

I think I didn't make any trades in the early going, at all - I was still researchign Monotheism at 10 AD - I usually am most of the way through the middle ages by then.
I had ivory... but I didn't build SoZ until 850 AD.
I'm not sure i ever got consistent 4 turn research.
Not knowing any better, I never tried to get scientific civs free techs at the era change.

I remember thinking: man, I got 7 SGL's... and I wasn't even close to a high score - what does it TAKE???

Some obvious things jump out at me, looking back:
SoZ was very late in the game.
Built my university and cathedral late - Shakespeare's, too. Not sure what my research path was - I think I got literature pretty late, too.

More, more! :goodjob:

This was my 2nd gauntlet. A link to the original thread

ahh, back then. I didn't realize that coast counted for domination ;)

This has been, so far, my only domination game!! I just realized that. Well, I've have the current gauntlet.

Settings:

Iroquois, pangea map, 6 opponents (Byzantium, Russia, England, America, Scandinavia, Portugal - or, a bunch of guys who don't have early UU and dont' expand well) - no barbs, AI aggression set to almost nothing, 80% water, arid/cool, 5B. I think i would go temperate and normal, allow the AI to grow better.

The start:

I'm in the bottom center of my island.

There's a 3rd cow to the NE.

1000 BC stats:

17 cities
44 pop
3 settlers
26 workers
1 chariot
2 MW

In Monarchy, researching literature.

Cities were spaced reasonably far apart.

I had met all the AI on my land - I never met England or America.
My strategy for that game was to expand, space cities 4 apart, build long lines of roads, build pyramids and ToA.

I worked around the island - Scandinavia was to my east, russia to the NE, portugal to the N and Byzantium to the west. Byzantium had a sword or 2 by the end.

domination at 10 BC. The winner of that gauntlet got domination at 610 BC!!

The next two games started my run on 20K. I am not sure how many 20K games I was playing. 2 of them were done as Germany. Why Germany? Well, I figured that Germany gives me SGL's and fast research, and the faster promotions help get elites and a leader for Heroic Epic.
1st: Tiny Chieftain. 70% water, wet, warm, 5B years, vs. Greece, Korea and Sumeria. Raging Barbarians.

Start was nice – 2 cows, 4 hills, 4 BG’s. at size 12/20/with rails I made base
