My Idea for religions (not what you think of!)

I think the Civ 4 mod should not only include the religion, but also the race of SubGenius and it should be sport to summon the Stark Fist of Removal upon other nations of commies and pinks and bleeders.

The XML files only contain numbers and such (ie "Warrior has 2 Strength, Spy is Invisible). Python has most of the scripting work, but you'd probably need the SDK for two sets of religions.

Interesting idea, probably could be a mod. But...It doesn't effect political world very much. I mean alright President takes a picture with the pistons, wow. Forgotten it a week later. Americans love baseball, well not really. No one has ever campaigned and used Baseball as a platform. Have they used religion yes. So, your idea although interesting, couldn't be implemented i nthe actual game.

And I believe Religion has alot to do with politics. for example, people have a fuss when the president says god. or how about when Ning Diem or w/e(puppet put in charge of South Vietnam in the 60's) declared the country Catholic when 99% were buddist. Many of the debates we have in politics now are based off religious morals. For example abortion and gay marriage are both issues debated by religous leaders and politicians.

It's possible that there's too many sport codes for civ to handle (hockey, soccer, golf, football, cricket, rugby, forumla 1, etc...) unless the sport concept is just in the form of a wonder such as the Olympics and every now and then the birth of a great 'Sport Hero'.
You could take it further and suggest that each nation/ culture submits a team to the olympics and competes (as a mini game in Civ), hence the Sport Hero's increase the ability of your national team when they play in the Olympics.
Perhaps....perhaps, sport could be the future/ modern substitute for war?

IMHO the National Sport is to act a as religion, not to replace it completely.

There could be as many sports as there are religion right now in the game.

As for war ..... they could be replaced by rivalries.

Religions are a major fact in todeys conflicts... not only between major religions, but also within the same religion... one of bloodiest conflict in the past 15 years was balcan civil war... Catholics vs Ortodox christian followers...

I think sports wouldn't really need all the diplomatic ramifications religions have. They just need to spread just like religions. It would really add some flavor to a modern-themed mod.

Come to think of it: there might be a host of other things that might be cool spreading like religions; certain political ideas or music for example. But you would need multiple sets of religions, and maybe that's a bit hard to make.

No sports, please. A major pleasurable aspect of Civ 4 is the total absence of professional sports and pop music. However, it would be entertaining to watch Madonna play rugby in a stadium in Afganistan. (Maybe the Taliban had some things right?)

Well come on lets be adults and recognize the truth, it's mostly Islam that dosen't do the getting along part.

I agree with your point about sports stuff though, it dosen't fit the game. England isn't going to get angry at the US becuase it dosen't have Soccer as it's OR.

Allah is "God", y'know? And there you are - They are all monotheistic religions, which means, they worship one god. So what?

But I like the sportsidea, though I it shouldn't cause wars or somehting like that.
I'd prefer gold, cultural... boni for Olympic games or world championships.

I really don't want sports. There's a whole list of things you could put in (sports, music etc.), and I really don't want all that stuff in at all.

Well, I think it was a good decision not to put it in the core game. But I think it would make a pretty cool mod for some people.

I'd really like a sportocracy, where all my althletes start with a +2xp bonus! (no, just kidding)

Jews believe in God but only accept jesus as a good guy if they accept him as anything.
Christians Believe in the Same God as jews but also believe that Jesus is the son of god.
Muslims believe in Allah. Allah translates into God, and the first half of the Koran is the Old Testimate, or atleast a good portion. The Muslims believe Jesus to be a Profit(as I understand it) and Mohommad as well, except mohommad is a superior profit for some reason. Although, I've also heard that Mohommad was cast away by God in other text. I'm not 100% sure. The Religions are diffrent on several cases, enough to anger eachother.

Remember not all religions get along. Hell, not many nonCatholics like Catholic church at all, not many catholics do either.
