My Modding Philosophy

Or, if you wish, you can take it to our World History forum, as others (like myself) may find it interesting, as well. :)

I will take steps to move some of the conversation over there, Padma. I was not aware of a World History Forum. Per your instructions, the discussion on German tanks has been moved here.

Sounds really interesting man, I'll give it a run for sure, probably tomorrow night and over the weekend. Thanks for posting it, I'll give you my feedback once I've tried it out.

I like how you've modified the game to favour coastal cities. IMO this is more reflective of reality, because most of the powerful nations/civilizations in history had access to the sea.

The Mod is posted in the Creation and Customization Forum under Timerover51 Naval Mod. Enjoy.:)

timerover51: I need somebody like you, who is not afraid to say what they think, in the Civ5 ideas forumhttp://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=119.

Anyway, I like your ideas, I have used many of them myself.
One thing that I have done differently is lower the costs of diplomatic activities, like embassies, spies and propaganda. I have especially lowered propaganda to make it much more useful.

By Civ5 ideas forum, you mean up in the Civ4 forum? I have the game, but I would need to reload it on my computers and try to play it some before I think I could contribute usefully there.

Thank you for the comments on my ideas. I have not played around with either the diplomatic activities or propaganda, as I am a firm believer in the Law of Unintended Consequences. I have a pretty good idea of what the AI is going to do with most of my changes, but those areas, I am not sure of the effects. I probably would need to play a few games where I used those myself and got a better handle on them before I would start to change things. However, it is very nice to know that you are being encouraged to mod the game.

The Civ - Ideas and Suggestions forum with the Civ5 thread is for all versions of civ. They jost chose to put it there because the civ4 forum is the most active (mabye).

With civ4 players. You don't really need to know exactly how civ4 is played, I haven't played for 6 months now, but it helps. Once I find a thread, it's hard to get me off of it, trying to get some sense into the civ4 players. I'm not saying that they are stupid, just not exposed to Civ3 excellence.

Anyway: Most of what I do, in modding I mean, is taking downloaded units, from here, and adding them in. Most of the units are from Wyrmshadow and Sandris, but it's getting harder to get new stuff since I have no way of extracting .rar files.

If you are having problems with .rar file extraction, download the latest version of StuffIt Expander and use that. I have not been having any problems using that to download files.

WinRAR is free also, even though it has a nag screen...

I have only recently begun downloading units from the Creation & Customization thread, and I am really blown away by the quantity and quality of the units there...especially Sandris'. Unbelievable. :)

For ancient units, Sandris is very good. For workers, Plotinus (spelling?) is excellent. But if you want WWI to modern units, Wyrmshadow has the most selection. For him, quantity does not mean a lack of quality.

I already have a program for it, my friend gave it to me, but it does not work on this computer. It works on my old one, but I now have no way to move files inbetween the two.

What kind of computer are you using and what is the operating system?

It's not the computer, it's just that I am not an admin, so I can't use unapproved programs. I had to ask for the Civ3 (and 4, even though I never use it) folder to be unlocked (I can't think of a better term) so that I could edit it.

Boo-urns.

I don't know what to tell ya man, I tried to find some web-based archive apps, but there don't seem to be any. :(

Yeah, it sucks, my only solution is to send the .rar's to my friend by email, but he does not chack them very often.
